How do I start eating beans?

Recommended Posts

Hi, all! I really want to know how to start eating Beans - good, easy recipes? I have just never had beans but really want to start but don't even know where to begin. Any help would be much appreciated.

I make a very simple turkey chili with kidney Beans. I also have made a black bean Soup with turkey and a little bit of bacon, diced tomatoes and chicken broth. Refried Beans are good too.

I guess I should have said I'm not a meat eater but thank you.

I'm not a vegetarian, but have made a pot of black Beans in my slow cooker a few times. I just tarted with dry Beans and added some Water and broth (I used beef but you could use vegetable or just water). I put in some dried onion and seasonings (random stuff from my spice drawer - Mexican spice and Moroccan spice I think). Near the end I mixed in some Rotel tomatoes and a can of fire roasted tomatoes so it came out kind of soupy. I added a block of cream cheese, too.

I ate beans for days!

Dark red kidney Beans well cooked with cheese and seasoned with Tony Chachere's seasoning was always a favorite of mine.

Yuck! I have always hated Beans. It's a texture issue with me and it did not change post surgery. I really wish they wouldn't gag me because they really are a great source of Protein.

Enjoy!

My tip would be to invest in a pressure cooker. Beans take a long time to cook, but pressure cookers make it so much faster. I make really great one-pot vegan bean dishes in my pressure cooker and it only take about 15 minutes of your active time and you wait about an hour and dinner is ready! I make a vegan chili, vegan baked Beans, even tried vegan curry beans! They're all great and quick dinner options for me.

Let me know if you want more info and I can send you myrecipes. Good luck!

Beans? That's an interesting choice. Well, I love Beans, of course when you have to eat same food everyday it can be tricky and turn into a torture. When I started following diets I found it pretty hard but veentually I stumbled upon this article. You can find some nice tips there.

I make a really simple black bean dish. It's just black Beans (I use canned so I don't have to rehydrate them), cinnamon, chili powder, and salt to taste. You can put a little lime juice in there too, if you like. It takes virtually no time to make and it's really good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
