Vacation after surgery ?

Recommended Posts

Met with my new surgeon on Thursday and she said everything was a go for surgery in two weeks! Yay! I'm so excited so I had vacation for Vegas planned for the beginning of April should I cancel my vacation as it is Vegas or should I go forward as planned ??? I know I will still be on liquids or soft foods so should I go?? Need advice! Thanks all!

If you think you will be able to stick to your post-op food plans, then there is no reason not to go. If you are still on liquids and purees at that point, you may be a little tired. I had issues with fatigue until I was back on solid foods and could get more calories in.

I think that you should be able to go with no problems providing you don't have any complications from the surgery. Your surgery is in 2 weeks, which would be around 3/8.

Your vacation is in early April which should be about 4 weeks post op.

Speaking from my experience I was fine by 4 weeks post op & went on my previously planned vacation at 6 weeks post op. Even though you will probably be on soft foods by then, bring some of your Protein Drinks or powder mix with you to be sure you are getting your Protein requirements in each day.

Go on vacation and have a great time & go see the show Rock of Ages while your in Vegas.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
