50 pounds down! But...

Recommended Posts

I'm so happy to finally have hit another milestone in my journey, being able to cross my legs was probably my most happiest next to this one.

I however sometimes get depressed that I'm almost six months out and have only lost 50 pounds. I do not compare myself to other sleevers, I'm just more so disappointed in myself because there are days when the wrong items go into my pouch and this mostly happens right before my period when pmsing.

Besides that I am still always really tired and fatigued but have upped my Vitamin intake in hopes of gaining more energy and I do eat right majority of the time but after work most days I'm just beat.

I don't have a lot of loose skin due to slower weight loss but I'm starting to wonder if I'll continue to drop.

My next goal is to get under 200. Here are my current stats:

Surgery Day: 259 September 1, 2016

Current Weight: 209

First, you've lost 50 lbs. That's a huge achievement! You've lost nearly 10 lbs a month, which is fantastic. Own that!

Second, the fatigue could be a number of things. Are you tracking your food intake? Are you tracking your fatigue? If you are, do you notice any patterns there?

How many calories a day are you getting in? Sometimes fatigue can be not enough intake as well as a Vitamin issue. It can also be a sign of dehydration. Or, if you've been on medication for your blood pressure, after a 50-lb loss, your medication may need to be reduced.

If you can give us more information, we can do more to help you.

First off, you don't have a pouch. Bypass patients have pouches.

Second, 50 pounds in 6 months is perfectly respectable. And going off plan once in a while happens. If you're following your plan 95% of the other times, eating off plan shouldn't be a huge deal.

Do you move more than before?

Are you tracking Protein, carbs and calories closely?

Are you staying hydrated?

If you are in fact unhappy with your progress, then make sure you're doing the above to ensure the best results possible.

I haven't tracked my fatigue but yes to keeping a journal of the foods I eat. No longer on blood pressure medicine but these are great ideas that I plan to follow. Now that it's been mentioned it might be dehydration as I'm having issues getting all my fluids in.

Anyone know why coffee isn't allowed?

It's not that it's coffee per se (unless coffee messes with your stomach) as much as it is caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic, so any Fluid in caffeinated coffee won't help you meet your Fluid needs and may require you to need more fluid.

I agree with others. Fifty pounds is great. But, if you are unhappy with your progress, consider going back to basics and make sure you are getting in ALL of your Protein and fluids.

I drink coffee but usually only one cup a day. Try getting all your Protein and Water in this week and see if the scale changes. Fifty pounds in six months is awesome!

Great idea! I get all my Proteins in but will try harder with everything else

Not all surgeons prohibit their WLS patients from drinking any coffee. Mine permits some, just not tons.

coffee provokes stomach acid, which can increase acid reflux for some sleeve patients.

I still drink coffee but rarely more than 1/2 or 1 cup of coffee daily. And I drink it in the form of a skinny latte (made with skim milk -- which seems to reduce its acidity for me).

BTW, I also sleep better than I used to, which I attribute to several lifestyle changes, including my smaller coffee intake.

Yes 3-4 times a week but only the past month.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
