Slow loss, eating more

Recommended Posts

What is an average monthly loss? I am 4 months out and am only loosing 5 pounds a month for last two months. Is this abnormal. I see my Nut in two weeks for a check up. I started at 242 and lost 20 pounds first month and 15 pounds second month. Then 5 pounds January and 5 pounds this month. I'm eating 60g Protein and sticking to pretty healthy diet. I feel like I can eat more this month. I also get over 64 ounces of Water each day. I work out 2-3 days a week. On another topic, what has worked the best for arm toning? Heavier weights or more repetitions of smaller weight? Thanks

I don't know if any of us can give you information about averages since so many variables can influence the rate of weight loss. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate.

That said, 60 grams of Protein seems really low. Is that the Protein target you were given? Frankly, you MAY not be eating enough. Definitely talk with your NUT about your goals.

I'm pretty much the same as you but only 3 months out. 20 the 1st month then 5 Jan and 6 this month. However I slacked off for about 2wks this month and have gotten back on track. But I'm good with it. I'd rather lose slowly and have a chance to fill in my skin with muscle then losing so rapidly that i have so much loose skin. I'll have loose skin anyways but I want to lose at a healthy rate. 1-2lb/week. It's going to come off eventually, so if I keep plucking away I'll accomplish both losing the way and practice living a healthy lifestyle for life. It's not a race. If you work at it, you will get there. At your pace. No one else's.

We started at a similar weight and you have far exceeded what I lost the first 4 months. Don't worry about your rate of loss. It has absolutely nothing, nada, zip, zero, to do with your ability to ultimately reach goal and keep weight off long term. This is not a race, it is forever.

And like previously mentioned, I'd shoot for even more Protein and more Water.

As others have said, weight loss rates vary so much -- for so many reasons. For the record, my first 4 months post-op I lost:

Month 1 - 10.4 pounds

Month 2 - 11.8 pounds

Month 3 - 9.2 pounds

Month 4 - 10.4 pounds

I agree that 60 grams of Protein is low. That was my surgeon's minimum requirement during Month 1.

But when I read that someone is "sticking to pretty healthy diet" I have no idea what they're really eating.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
