sherryboberry 3 Posted February 21, 2016 I am 7 months post surgery and have gone from 230 lbs pre surgery to 162 lbs. My doctor just did blood work without fasting and said my triglycerides and cholesterol were high and suggests I start meds to lower them. When I was 230 lbs my levels were fine. What in the world is going on and I am wondering if I should get a second opinion or do another blood test?
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted February 21, 2016 My cholesterol went up about 50 points and two years later, I am still taking Lipitor. Even though I cut waaaaay back on beef, pork, cheese and Peanut Butter, it is still high.
DaisyAmy 561 Posted February 21, 2016 (edited) My cholesterols are ok, but my triglycerides are still high (but lower than they were). I was hoping to get off Lipitor. Oh well. Edited February 21, 2016 by DaisyAmy
BarrySue 602 Posted February 21, 2016 Cholesterol can sometimes be changed by diet/exercise. Other times, it can't, and so medicine is necessary. It's just genetics, unfortunately. You can be 90 lbs, athletic and vegan but still need lipitor. If anything, it shows you have done all you can.
Athenyx 51 Posted February 21, 2016 I'm having the opposite problem! I'm five weeks post op and I did a general women's health blood test kit and it came back saying both my good and bad cholesterol were very low - I've been trying to think of ways to raise my good cholesterol with this diet but it's difficult! I think it must be something to do with my current diet but I'll probably check again in six months ???? best thing to do is make a few small changes and try checking again I'd say!
