Yep. Lots of choices for Veggies. Just keep track and make sure you are eating enough Protein. If you eat eggs and dairy, gluten and soy, you really have a lot of choices. Nuts and Beans too.... As a veggie, you can still eats loads of junk and sliders, so just keep on top of that, and everything should be ok. Make sure you take your B Vitamins.< /p>

Hi Heidi, i am also a vegetarian with limited dairy, no animals at all. I am presurgery, op scheduled for 4 April. I am a bit worried also in case i can't tolerate salad foods. Also initially in pureed and mashed stages how do we get Protein? I have not seen the dietician yet, waiting for appointment. Can anyone recommend a plant based high prot3in, low fat & sugar Protein Powder please? Very nervous, no support, one working agqinst me, but i feel this is the right path after a very long time. Cheers.

Thanks for the two names, CowGirlJane. I looked them both up then lost this thread and have spent over an hour looking for it again! I am not real computer savvy. I will contact them I guess, feel a bit shy about it but it is so good to read about people who have succeeded long term. When i read some articles about the sleeve only lasting 3-5 years, I get a bit scared. I had a gastric balloon, 2 of them and lost all of my excess weight and kept most of it off for a couple of years when all of a sudden, here I am again. I know it wasn't all of a sudden but it did take only a few months. I had a pretty tough time personally then but now am free and determined. I have tasted slimness recently (first time for 30 years) and I want it back - badly. Thanks to everyone for the inspiration in these posts.

whey is lactose free... or find pea or soy or hemp protein powders. I couldn't eat salad for many months, but now can eat anything. Raw was not easy early on... even dairy was not well tolerated the first couple of months. Mashed Beans and veggie cheese. Sometimes your taste budds are really off early on, you must get in your protein anyway... treat it like a medicine if you have to. Buy sample sizes if you can find them to try out.

Where have you read that the vsg expires? All WLS become less effective over the years. Over time, our individual choices make or break maintenance. People regain post bypass too....for same reasons.

I am 4 years post op - plenty of others even further out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
