Thought I shouldn't be hungry?!?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was banded on Friday July 27 with Dr Coburn. We stayed in a hotel until Sunday then flew home to Winnipeg. My question is...I thought that I was not going to feel hungry for at least the first week? Not sure why I thought that but nevertheless I do.

Well anyway, my stomach has been growling ever since. I am sticking to the suggested menu of full fluids. I did try a few Optifast but alas they were a bust. In every sense of the word.

Did/does anyone else feel the same? I mean my husband and daughter were eating a pizza for supper and I literally felt that I could have eaten a slice with no problem. I didn't.

Thanks for listening. Wish that I lived in the Toronto area so that I could take advantage of the center more and having more people like ME around.

Leslie

Hi Leslie - Hope you don't mind that I cut and paste my response to one of our friends above who is in the sam situation as you: Welcome to Bandster Hell!

When you are first banded you have NO restriction. Although some people do feel a little bit, it is usually from the swelling due to surgery. If you are like me and recover well from surgery then you will definitely feel hungry because you are taking in very little food at this point - however....it is very important to follow your post op diet because it is allowing your stomach to heal and adhesions to form to keep your band in place and avoid slippage down the line.

Drink as much Water as you can to help fill you up and add lots of Protein powder to your mushies - that will help to keep you feeling full.

I had my first fill 6 weeks after surgery and although I had some restriction, it was not enough - most people need 3-4 fills and I have had 3 so far and feel pretty good. I am losing the requisite 1-2 lbs per week. Not speedy, but safe and those pounds are gone forever.

Remeber that the band is a tool (imagine a $17K tool on the shelf in home depot)! It is not a magic cure and you still have to work it.

Hang in there - it WILL get better.

thanks for the advice guys !!

I will definately stick with it. Since I started Optifast on July 6 up to today I have lost a total of 19 pounds so not so bad a start.

I think that I will carry a Water bottle around with me all the time just to keep myself feeling full.

talk to you later, thanks again

Hi: I was constantly hungry and asked Jill the nutritionist at the TLBC. She reviewed what I was eating and recommended I increase my Protein intake. I now have three small meals and two Snacks with protein being the main item. If you are on liquids or mushies, the object is not to loose weight, but to heal. As others have stated, drink Water and increase your Protein Drink. Doddie

Oh i feel hungry all the time.

Maybe I am not eating enough. I am defiantely also looking at the scale and wanting it to change. I am not sure how much of the Optifast that I can stomach in a day. It is not sitting too well with me right now. To be honest I really liked the chocolater flavour before the surgery but now it kinda makes me head to the "loo" if you know what honest before the

Sorry..hit a button and off it went to be posted before I was ready.

Anyways, Can you guys give me an idea of what kind of things that you are eating. I am only eating/slurping yogurt drink, yogurt, Soups, Water, and crystal light. I have tried to take some Multivitamin and Calcium but they really made a mess of my tummy. Maybe because I wasn't eating enough.

What do you guys think?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
