900 calorie diet several weeks before surgery

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else think this is a bit much? I started a 900 calorie diet monday and have already lost 14lbs.

My surgery keeps being moved due to having sinus and ear infections. I'm just waiting for the call for a date.

I figure I'd start a pre op pre op diet. If that makes sense. I've seen ppl on my 600 pound life start a 900 calories a day diet before being approved. .I'm kind of scared to gain weight before they call me for a date. I Track all my food and Water intake on my fitness pal. Has anyone else done this ?

Hi Valeria1982,

I am in the same boat. I am waiting for the phone call that I am approved. Everything was done by Jan 13, and I still do not have confirmation on a date. My surgeon has me on a pre-surgery diet of 1200 calories. I do use FP to track and make certain I am getting enough Protein. Goal is at least 100 g. of Protein a day- prior to surgery. It is so hard waiting. I had a glass of wine tonight. While it is not officially on the diet, it is within my calorie intake- and needed something as a treat for the long wait...

Hi Marie

I was doing 1200 calories also ..I just switched it this week and lost the 14 pounds. . I'll have to switch it back to 1200 monday .. I make sure I get enough protein also.. I drink a Protein Shake in the morning and lunch.. and have chicken and veggies too.. I try to switch it up.. I love chicken and fish. . I'm really prepared for all this..I just don't like the waiting around.. lol

I hope u enjoy your glass of wine ????

I'm smack dab in the middle of 2 weeks of a 900 calorie pre op diet. Couple that with no caffeine, and I can imagine I am a sweetheart right now. Definitely an adjustment, but it will be worth it. March 1st here I come!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
