6 month post-op visit

Recommended Posts

I had my 6 month post-op visit yesterday with the surgeon’s assistant and my NUT. It went very well. They are both very happy with the progress that I’ve made and they both feel I will make it to my goal. I discussed “goal” weight with them both. I am 5’10” - My PCP said 175, the surgeon’s assistant said 160, my NUT said 170 and I was thinking 165! 15lbs is a big range. I want the goal to be reachable and sustainable. For now I’m sticking with 165. We will see as I get closer what is doable.

I’m down over 100lbs since starting this journey last April and down 63 since my surgery on 8/17/2015. Since that time I am able to do so much more. I can cross my legs without any issues. I can walk longer distances, do workout classes and not be the big sweaty hot mess in the back, climb stairs without pain, fit into any seat/booth, and in general I just feel so much better. I remember being 295lbs and hating the feeling of my own skin.

I am down from a tight size 22W to a 14 and I even got a pair of size 12 dress pants on yesterday. I no longer have to shop in plus size stores.

I am so thankful for this tool that I have. My sleeve has enabled me to do so much more than I ever thought I could.

In the beginning I had doubts. I am so glad for this forum where I was able to get so much valuable information pre-surgery to prepare me for my journey. It is still a wealth of information now and I come here almost every day to read other people’s inspirational stories, rants, issues, etc. I hope I never stop learning.

I still have a lot of hard work ahead to reach my goal but it’s worth it. I need to do better with tracking and I need to up my exercise. Those two things are my main goals for the next few months. I see my surgeon and my NUT for my 1 year post-op on 8/23 and I hope to be posting in here at that time that I’ve met my goal. For now I am going to continue to get inspiration here and go to my monthly support group meetings at the hospital run by my NUT who is awesome. I hope everyone out in the BP community has continued success and a fabulous day! :D

Awesome that your visit went well and that you are feeling so great! You've made a lot of progress in a short period of time and it's hard to imagine you won't make goal at this point. Keep up all the good work and the positive attitude!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
