Mineral oil helps to lubricate but Miralax helps to pull Water back into the colon.

One of the side effects of dehydration is your body searches for water anywhere it can find it. That also means it will leach water out of your colon and your stool to keep itself as hydrated as possible. Resulting in hard stools.

My mom and I would measured out 67 ounces of Water every morning for 1, 16 hour day since surgery. I've been drinking that and going over that limit for sure. Luckily it's no longer difficult for me to sip- sip- sip. =)

Question!

Will Olive Oil work the same way as Mineral Oil? Because I would much rather try that. =( I can't wait until this phase is over with. I was always a regular pooper. :P

How soon after your surgery did you have a bowel movement? I had one morning of surgery 2/18 but have not had one since.

For myself, I only had "wet flatulence" for about a week while on liquids. I would get the sensation of having to pass gas, but it could have been a wet one so I'd run to the toilet just to be safe.

5 days without BM after bypass.

1 dose (2tbsp) Milk Of Magnesia.

Problem solved.

I'm now day 7 and everything is back to normal without anything.

Surgery on 2.15, haven't had a bowel movement since 2.12. Stool softners don't work. Will be trying something else. Completely miserable.

@bigmikeeeee,

Sorry about this! It’s pretty common, and very uncomfortable! I’m not an expert, but the standard remedies are Water (water, Water, water), exercise (do you do any), and fiber, from food or supplements.

Glad you dealt with it! I ended up with a fissure early on and it was probably in the top 5 most painful things ever.

I'm about 15 months out and still take 2 fiber gummies and a fish oil every morning. The combo helps keep things moving without sending me in the other direction.

No problem usually in that area but recent un-related major surgery, associated opiate drugs plus laying around in hospital a few days, brought a similar issue forward. Not unusual apparently!

I regularly drink a fair bit of lactose free whole milk [self doctored using lacteze] to alleviate the trots, so guess what?

Had a glass of un-doctored whole milk & was there within 1/2 hour....all gone & no more issues, except the lingering surgery pain.

I've been having issues myself. I actually have been having a "knife" pain in my lower stomach. Even after nearly feeling like I was having a child last week, it has still lingered. My doctor told me today that she thought the pain was still stemming from the Constipation problem. so she told me to take MoM every day until normal BMs and then miralax every other day for a while. well I came home and took the MoM and within an hour or so it was time. I've had nothing but "liquid" soooo why still have the pain?! :( it doesn't feel that great!

I don't understand how there can even be anything to poop when you're only on a liquid diet. Anybody know why this is?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
