Surgery on 2.15, haven't had a bowel movement since 2.12. Stool softners don't work. Will be trying something else. Completely miserable.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of Water, tea, etc. Hard stool is normally dry stool, and laxatives work I believe by making your intestine secrete more Water into the waste.

I don't understand how there can even be anything to poop when you're only on a liquid diet. Anybody know why this is?

I was surprised at first too, but the intestine can both absorb Water from and secrete Water into its contents. I guess that after your body absorbs what it can in nutrients from yogurt or Protein shake and then absorbs the water too, there is still something solid left to poop with ;-).

Thanks. I am drinking my 64 oz of water a day, unfortunately I hate tea so sticking to the water.

I've had movements w/help from Smooth Move tea and was going on my own for a couple of days. Skipped yesterday. Did the natural way this afternoon. It was awful. Never again. I'm going back to the tea. And I've been getting all my liquids in and stopped pain meds.

Where do you get the tea?

I bought the tea off Amazon. I've heard it's also available in stores. I will definitely order more. It's herbal/caffeine free. I may also get a bottle of Benefiber just to have it on hand.

I find that the more Fiber I add tends to give me gas and cramping more than an actual BM. I add Miralax to my coffee, yogurt, etc and it works best for me.

MOM is so nasty!

I ended up having to use a mineral enema. I wanted to Keel over because of the pain. Now, I will never let hat happen again. I use exlax chocolate laxatives, probably more than inshould

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
