hollybower 122 Posted February 18, 2016 I was bothered by a conversation I had with a person who had the VSG. He said that once your comfort (food) is taken away you will find other things to fill that spot. It's mental and usually it's lust or sex. That one you start to feel good about yourself you start to lean towards that comfort of attention and the advances which then leads you to other things. I don't think this is true with everyone! I have read in here where some people have started cheating etc and it seemed like it was after the sleeve. Thoughts?
Angie74 170 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) there can be many cross addictions, shopping, gambling, drinking etc it all depends on the person. Not everyone has this problem Edited February 18, 2016 by Angie74
applejenn 173 Posted February 20, 2016 I've heard many people who have had surgery take up a different addiction now that their food addiction is changed Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal

It makes me nuts when someone on a WLS board assumes their experience is a universal experience and then broadcasts "their truth" to everyone in the world. This is NOT a universal experience. Sheesh! MKJohnson15 29 Posted February 20, 2016 I don't think this is true for every. Single. Person. But it does happen!!! My surgeon warned us of this in the group session before our process started. He said to deal with your emotional reasons for eating because if you don't, you will turn to other addictions once food is no longer your emotional support. It happens and it's scary but it's not 100% guaranteed. You are the one who decides what choices you make.
