I went to my first consult last month, and Tuesday I have my second appointment. I have been sticking to the meal plan my surgeon office recommended. I weighed myself a few times and saw a loss, but Saturday I got on it showed a loss of 20 pounds ????. I knew this couldn't be right! Turns out I have a defective scale. I went to my follow up sleep study appointment and had the ma weigh me, I'm the same exact weight as I was a month ago. And yes I am tracking my food and doing light exercise. I just needed to vent, I'm feeling very discouraged right now and I'm only 1 month in ????. Anyone have any advice ?

Yes, I have advice. Stay off the scale. As you have already noticed when you weigh on different scales, on different days, and even different times of day you will get different readings.

Just pick one scale (preferably the scale at your surgeon's office) and only weigh at your appointments.

As long as you are following your meal plan, then weighing all the time is a good habit to break. Especially if you are going to let the numbers on the scale dictate how you feel.

Agreed, scales fluctuate terribly. I was at the doctor last week. My scale is my "official scale" and showed 80 lb loss. I went to my appointment and her scale showed 7 lbs higher. I joked with the nurse that clearly my clothes weigh 5lbs and the only proper way to weigh is butt nekkid and after going to the bathroom. My doctor walked up behind me, hearing my comment, and said "and before you eat!"

Thanks ladies. When i initially decided to start this journey I told myself I would not let the scale dictate me , like it has done in the past. I will stick to weighing in only when meeting with my surgeon, and going even harder with the meal prepping and exercising.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
