I woke up this morning and I'm heavier than I was last month at weigh in like .5lb...I'm so mad at myself and on the verge of crying cause I think I just screwed myself!! Did anyone gain during the 6month weightloss period and if so did you end up getting approved or denied?

It depends on your insurance requirements. I had both UHC and BCBS AL during my 6 months and they both required that I did not LOSE any weight during the six month period. I gained maybe three pounds and was approved. If you are able to lose weight by dieting and exercise, the insurance company uses that to justify not approving your surgery. They think if you can lose weight with traditional means then you don't need a surgical solution. Other companies want to see you lose (and not gain) to show that you are committed to the lifestyle change. It all depends on your insurance providers requirements.

Your scales and the doctor scales may not weigh the same. It really is a minor amount so I wouldn't worry too much, but please let us know how it goes (and wear light clothes!)

I gained 25lbs during my six month pre op. I really just couldn't control myself. The worst part was going to the nutritionist and seeing her disappointed face..lol...I was approved, and no one mentioned the weight gain at all. I am currently two weeks post op, and as of today between the liquid diet pre op and the two weeks after surgery, I have lost the 25lbs I gained. Good luck! I have anthem BCBS of Virginia by the way.

My doctor allowed a 5lb gain by the end of the 6 months. My weight fluctuated during that whole time period. (I ended up with a loss in the end) I was approved for surgery within 24 by my insurance.

Ok so all the weight gain and loss is that from everyone's 1st "official" weigh in or month to month? I haven't gained from my 1st "official" weighing just from the month before weight

Ok I wweigh 312.8 at the visit with my surgeon (1st weigh in) and now I'm 308 last month I was 309.5 but my scale was showing 310 so that was up from last month's weight not the "overall weight" does that make sense?

I worry, that's what I do and o talked to my ins UMR and they said there is "no guidlines" whatever that means so I guess all is ok and we shall see in about 2 months.

Thank you all @@CourtneyLouise @@perforce @JessicaEllison-Correa @@provenzee @@cindyw41

You've lost 2 lbs. Weight will fluctuate for many reasons. Some months I went above my beginning weight. For instance My beginning weight at the start of the 6 months was 212. My weight when I first saw the Dr (month 2 of the 6 months) was 215. At the time of approval my weight was 208. At the time of surgery I was 196. I am now 179.

Just keep going, follow your Drs instructions and you'll be good :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
