Cottage Cheese

Recommended Posts

My NUT recommended that I try and get some Cottage cheese into my diet as an alternative, as I am getting bored with the same ole stuff. I have never eaten cottage cheese in my life, so I wasn't real sure. I ate some today straight up and it was ok. I am looking for some ideas on what to do with it. Any suggestions out there?

I started a thread a while back called "What can I do with...cottage cheese?" that has a lot of great suggestions.

I happen to love cottage cheese.< /p>

Try it:

Plain.

With crushed black pepper.

With crushed black pepper and fresh Tomato.< /p>

With fruit.< /p>

With salad toppings (I like Kalamata olives).

With some salsa or picante sauce.

Etc., etc.

I use fat free cottage cheese as an ingredient in many sauces. Put it in a blender and use in place of mayo in chicken salad, or cream in Soups. It's part of my pancakes.

I love it with a sprinkle of seasoned salt. I also love it with tuna on it, which seems wierd, but really tasty!

Cottage cheese pancakes are awesome! A bit hard to deal with but delicious! You can pull up the recipe on Pinterest.

I think I eat cottage cheese 3 times a week for lunch. I use 1% at my nuts request. I eat it plain, with a tiny bit of fruit. I have mixed a small amount of cinnamon in it.

I have mixed taco seasoning and a little cream cheese with it, added tomatoes, lettuce. High Protein taco dip. Use different veggies for the chips.

Whatever you like.

Try it with a dollop of sweet chilli sauce - I usually have it on oatcakes or crackers but if you're on blended those are out for the time being :)

I had some with ground up pepper and some cherry tomatoes last night and it was OK. Not bad, but at least it was a change of pace. I bought some mushrooms list night to try out that recipe. That recipe looks YUM...

Try it again in the summer with ripe, juicy, fresh tomatoes and you might feel differently.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
