Problems after filling

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced problems after having a filling? Yesterday I had a filling done and every since I have felt light headed, shakes, diarrhea, tongue is swollen a bit, and my heart rate resting is in the 90's and normally would be 62. Just wanted to check to see if anyone else has had this happen since having the sleeve done. I went back to dentist today and had her check me out and write down the names of the numbing meds, I have also talked to my dr who did the sleeve. They both just told me nothing was wrong with what they did, but some people react different to medications after having the sleeve.

I have an appointment early next month. Really looking forward to it now.

Feel better and keep us posted .

Monitor your temp. Could always be early signs of an infection. The diarrhea is troubling to me, especially after a dental visit (if only because I've had multiple patients contract c.diff after dental work). Write down any symptoms you feel so you have a clear description on hand, and stay in touch with your doctor.

Something I just found out recently is it is possible to be allergic to the newer white fillings they use. Also like someone mentioned, I don't know how far out you are but early signs of infection are important to be aware of. It could be nothing, but you knew your body the best. If you keep feeling not right it wouldn't hurt to get checked even if it's an ekg to rule out a myocardial infarction

Ok so I have talked with several dentist on the phone and a couple of dental hygienist and they said that this is very rare and what happened was when they gave me the injection it actually got into the blood stream and that is what caused all these issues. It is about 1:100000 people this happens to and there was nothing to do but ride it out and watch my heart rate. My resting heart rate is still alittle above normal, but they said it might take up to 10 days for it to return to normal.

It had nothing to do with my sleeve and I am feeling much better and getting over this slowly. I am drinking as much as I can to get this out of my system and will be going back to the gym for the first time since Monday as my heart rate is finally down to the lower 70's and I feel that it is safe again.

Thanks for all your comments and help. (Sleeved June 15,15)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
