submomma 5 Posted February 16, 2016 I am getting conflicting reports from my doctor's office and the insurance company about what is required. Dr says 90 days, phone call with agent says policy doesn't have that requirement. Additionally, I started this journey at a BMI of 41 but since being on the "required" weight loss plan I am scared of dropping below 40 and not being approved. Any advice? I have my psych eval and required post-procedure NUT visit done. I hate to wait another 60 days for nothing...
Stephanne 24 Posted February 16, 2016 Hmmm. I have blue cross blue shield TX and didn't have any issues being approved. I didn't have a waiting period or anything. In fact, all of my pre-op stuff (psych evaluation, sleep study, etc.) was over a year old. The doctor's office wasn't sure if it would go through but decided to send it anyway just to see and I was approved. I didn't have to do a 6 month diet or anything. My BMI was 39. J.lynn 50 Posted March 4, 2016 When I spoke to my agent from BCBS of TX they told me that a 6 month supervised diet was a requirement. I was also right at 41 BMI without any comorbidities so I could not lose more than 5-10 lbs. I spent the 6 month diet trying to maintain my weight and also incorporate the instructions my nut gave me. My nut was more focused on making sure I understood how I would be eating post op and for the rest of my life than trying to get me to lose a substantial amount of weight now. She would have certainly been concerned if I gained weight. Hope this helps some.
