Going back to work

Recommended Posts

I'm going back to work tomorrow and I'm nervous about keeping up with my fluids and eating. I've been home for 4 weeks and it's hard to get it all in here. Having some anxiety about it.

I'm an event planner and don't have a "sit at my desk" job. I hope I'm ready for this.

I'm a middle school teacher ... no such thing as "at my desk"! I went back 2 weeks after surgery, but could have gone back after 1 (my boss wouldn't let me). I packed 2 - 32 oz Water bottles and marked them at every 8 oz so I knew what I needed to drink every hour or so. This was a huge help. As the days went on I found myself drinking more than the 8 oz each hour and eventually added a third water bottle.< /p>

Good luck!

Thanks! I'll have to try that.

Amazing that you went back so fast. I really needed this time.

Hope all is well with you.

@@llooft,it can be a challenge. I planned very well and took advantage of my last week off to make a menu. I made very simple lunches like deli meat wrapped with cheese & chili. I had about three or four meals and kept rotating it.

The key is to remember to get your Protein and Water & don't over do it.

It took about two months before I felt back to myself.

Good luck!

Thanks for the support!

We got a 4 hour snow delay today so I won't be going back until tomorrow. I think the universe wants me to stay home - lol.

I'm really glad to have this forum to read all the info.

I start back Monday 2/22 after 3 weeks off. I will still be on pureed foods. Sunday I plan on making anti-pasta lasagna, black bean & turkey chili, salmon and some sort of veggie, Protein Drinks, and of course Water. I work as an NP and see patients back to back for 9 hrs with rarely any breaks. So I am nervous about getting all needed food Protein and water in. Any suggestions?

Great choices on your menu.

Most employers are legally required to give you a break. It is imperative you make the time to eat. Early on, the lack of the required protein can affect your stamina & not to mention weight loss.

Many doctor's strongly recommend you get protein from food, but if you must, bring an extra Protein Drink.

P3 Snacks (by Oscar Mayer) are full of protein and easy to eat.

Good luck!

I've gone back and I'm so tired! I definitely have had trouble drinking all my Water.

I ate a couple bites of chocolate cake and then got so upset with myself. What the hell is wrong with me?

I'm having a lot of pain in my stomach and feel so nauseous all the time.

Any advice?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
