Is it normal for weight loss to slow down

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I am 2 months post op and have lost a total of 45 lbs. The first 30 lbs came off in one month and this past month I've lost the other 15. Is it normal for the weight loss to slow down like this? My diet and Fluid intake is good, so I'm just curious! Thanks :)

Of course! You weren't really expecting to lose 30 pounds a month were you? That wouldn't be very healthy!

Weight loss normalizes to 2-5 pounds a week after your initial large losses. Sounds to me like you've done just phenomenal so far!

Mine is the same way too honey! I keep telling myself slow and steady wins the race! I lost 30lbs in the first month and average 1 lb to 2 lbs a week.

As soon as I hit six months, I went from several pounds a week to a few grams a month.

That's very normal...in fact don't be surprised if you stall out soon. Just remember your weight stalls to let your body catch up. Just stick with your diet and do NOT weigh anymore frequently than once a week.

When you don't lose weight you usually lose inches, so start measuring.

I lost 30 lbs my first month and only a few my second month. My nutritionist told me if I kept losing at the rate of a pound a day, I'd become malnourished. Our bodies need time to catch up, and I personally have noticed that when I'm not losing weight I am losing inches! I don't measure, but my clothing and body are telling the signs. ;)

Yep, I lost about 40 lbs in a little over 2 months, then I hit a stall, and I finally lost another 1.5 lbs. I can see that my weight loss is slooooooowing down. I have decided to stop weighing myself so often and concentrate on being healthy and happy where I am!

I lost 22 pounds on my 2 week preop diet. Took 3 months postop to lose another 17 pounds. Rate of Loss kept dropping to eventually 1-2 pounds/month by 9 months out.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
