Katnroyal 225 Posted February 15, 2016 I drink sugar free. You should avoid carbonation for a while. In fact I shouldn't drink them at all but I don't drink coffee and I only drink the energy drink when absolutely necessary. I drank my first carbonated beverage about 8 months out. Again just because you can drink it, doesn't mean we should!!!
JamieLogical 8,713 Posted February 15, 2016 No carbonation for life.
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted February 15, 2016 If you are preoperative you might find that after surgery when you have dropped enough weight you don't need them for energy.
Fat2Phat2016 541 Posted February 17, 2016 I am 2.5 months post op and I drink V8 V-fusion Energy drinks. The one I like (Orange Pineapple) come in an 8 oz can. It has 50 calories and 12 carbs. It isn't carbonated and has more caffeine than a diet Soda in a 12 oz can. They come in diet and lots of different flavors too! Worth a try since they have the pick up you are looking for and not carbonated PLUS they have a daily dose of a veggie and fruit AND some of the Vitamins we all need since having surgery. ) Good Luck! Personally, that sounds awful. You could get the veggies and Vitamins from other sources, even just a regular V8. All that caffeine would be a concern. What does your NUT say about them? erp 2,016 Posted February 17, 2016 Is anyone able to drink these after surgery? If so, which color and how far post are you3 years out and only get the no bubbles or lightly carbonated ones a couple times a year. Was over a year out before I even tried one again. Carbonation was no bueno early out, a few sips and feeling way too full, so why test the limits? If caffeine is what you are going for and don't drink coffee, try a pre-workout supplement (e.g. Amino Energy). No bubbles, low calorie and lots of flavors to choose from. Well since I don't drink too many of them I do not get as much caffeine as someone who drinks coffee. I can't drink sodas and don't like coffee so this is a great alternative for me. My NUT thinks it is fine as so long as I stay under carbs and am getting my Protein in.
dashofsunshine 875 Posted March 11, 2016 I will occasionally have a Spindrift seltzer as a treat - they are lightly carbonated, much less so than La Croix or other brands (which make me burpy and uncomfortable). I drink coffee, so no need for energy drinks. I'm a year and 4 months post op and it was probably 8 months before I could handle the Spindrift. Still can't do fully carbonated seltzer, beer, or any kind of soda. And I'm just fine with that. I had a sip of champagne on New Year's to toast, and was promptly like, "NOPE" and didn't have any more. It's not a good feeling, haha!
dietbelle 36 Posted March 12, 2016 I drink coconut Water its natural and has potassium if you take nexium or reflux meds you loose potassium it's a good way to get the vit back into you plus it hydrates you. A bit expensive but worth it. I drink 1 litre per day and 1 litre in herbal teas and water. Water feels like lead though.
