Starr Jones did have gastric bypass!!! I say good for her!!! We all want to be healthy and live longer, and who cares if she didn't want to tell anyone. It IS her life and her body!!!! I didn't want anyone to know that I had the band, in case I failed at it. But now that I am not failing and I am doing so good, I don't really care who knows!!! I say screw em if they can't deal with the fact that I want to be here to see my great grandchildren, who cares how I get to that point!!

I was really annoyed with the thread on OH regarding this topic. I agree with you, reel... it's her business and if she wants to tell others, cool. If she doesn't, it is none of their business.

WLS is a medical issue and she had every right to keep it secret. I kept my surgery secret at first because I was afraid it wouldn't work and then I spent $8K for nothing. Not even surgery would fix this. After I realized it was going to work then I started telling people.

Star Jones isn't my favorite person but I was disappointed in my fellow fatties on the other board when they were slamming and insulting her over her WLS.

WasaBB, I agree it's her business, BUT my problem was that she wrote a book and did the talk show circuit with the teaser that she was going to tell women how she lost the weight. The implication was she DIDN'T have weight loss surgery.

I agree with faithmd. Normally, I'd be all for someone keeping their WLS private, but the way Star acted after she had surgery was just asking for inquiries. If you want to keep your WLS private, then stay mum about it. Don't pretend that you lost weight by some other method. To me, it came across like she wanted to profit from the controversy but she didn't want to admit that she had surgery.

Star Jones just seems to milk every situation for publicity. I respect her right to privacy but she shouldn't lie about the way she lost until she needs to make a buck off of her story......

It strikes me that when you opt for a public life you have already agreed to sacrifice the privilege of privacy. Star Jones has chosen to be a public person. She was fat and now she is thin. Of course everyone is gonna want to know why and it is my opinion that they have the right to know the truth. If we were made to believe that this woman successfully dealt with her weight problem through diet and excercise she would be doing a grave disservice to each and every overweight individual who has access to the media. I think that it is just fine that she is now out about her WLS.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
