How did you feel 3 weeks out?

Recommended Posts

Hi all -- this is my first post though I've been lurking and learning from you all for many months! Surgery is Feb. 17!
I am a meeting planner and travel for my job and have local events 3 weeks after surgery (road trip within Ohio). I have backup if I can't do it, but I really want to do it! What are the chances I'll feel well enough 3 weeks out? (Not counting the tiredness)

Everyone is different. I was back to work at a week and a half. However, I was instructed to not lift anything heavier than 10 pounds. I'm fortunate that my laptop is very light. Will you have to be lifting anything? PC? Suitcase? that sort of thing? Those will be some of your biggest worries at 3 weeks out (at least they would have been mine). However, some people have had a more difficult time that lasted longer so it is really hard to say. I think it would depend on what you have to do each day and what you have to lift and will you be able to rest if you need to.

at three weeks, my pain had all but disappeared, but I was so incredibly drained and tired that I know for me there would have been no way I could have gone out and had a whole day of activity. You may be different; some people feel great by three weeks and have a decent amount of energy. I'm almost 6 months post-op and I'm STILL tired, despite having normal blood work. It's a tale of caution: your body will decide what it wants and what it is ready for. So be careful and don't overdo it but hope for the best. :)

Keep Water on hand, make sure you get in your Protein and take naps when you can and you'll be fine.

My pain was gone for the most part but I was really run down and tired. A trip to the clinic was enough to wear me out. I had the same energy level I have with the flu. I felt better at week 6 and went back to work. At week 8 I had my pre-surgery energy level back. Now, I'm happy to report, it's higher than before surgery at five months.

My pain was going two days post-op and I was back to work at 2 1/2 wks (mainly because my surgeon mandated a 2 wk restriction).

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
