mzyvonne29 2 Posted February 13, 2016 My instructions for the hospital said do not wear nail polish. Now I wear acrylic nails, do you guys think that I would need to soak the acrylic off?
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted February 13, 2016 Yes, you need to take the acrylic off so that the anesthesiologist can clearly see your nail beds. Is one of the ways they determine oxygenation, I believe.
amazon 579 Posted February 13, 2016 I didn't have to. I've heard so many different answers. I'd just do what they tell you to however. For what it's worth, they just put the finger monitor on me and it worked. SMH
bevewhite 25 Posted February 14, 2016 Removing nail polish was the "old school" way of monitoring capillary refill in the nail beds. Now a days, we use monitors to measure your O2 saturations. I actually plan of going and getting a mani and pedi a day or two before my surgery date of February 24th. Best of luck to you
Mary2016 55 Posted February 14, 2016 There are still surgeons and anesthesiologists that will utilize the nail bed assessment, even with new equipment. I would do whatever they told you to do.
