I've got a surgery date for 2/29/16 but have got a cold. I need to get rid of this. Fast. Any suggestions?

Your surgery date is almost two weeks from now. Most colds don't last that long. Rest, fluids, decongestants. You'll be fine!

A pharmacist clued me in on Cold Eeze which has a heavy dose of zinc in it. Or you could just take a zinc supplement. If I get a cold, it's knocked out in a couple of days before I get miserable.

Apparently the zinc interferes with the virus's ability to reproduce. The mayo Clinic recommends to NOT use the zinc nasal spray because of its affects on your sense of smell.

All of the above and you can try to make some "Bone Broth". Try to find organic grass fed bones. Beef, Lamb, chicken, Look for stores near you. If not, just slowly cook whatever bones you can find. You tube is full of various methods of making it so you get the most nutrients out of it. Just slow cook it, if it get's to a rolling boil you can cook off some of the collagen and immune boosting nutrients, may take 24 hours!

Benefit, if you like "bone broth", this can be part of your post op and you can freeze it in aluminum muffin tins or ice cube trays!

I think your cold will be over by the 29th. The one I have right now may result in a cancelled surgery come Monday. The surgeon told me to come in and they'd decide then. From what I could gather, you are fine so long as you are not running a fever, do not have an existing infection and so long as your lungs aren't involved (the anesthesiologist won't like the last one). Crossing my fingers for you!

Thank you all so much!! I don't have a sore throat or a fever. Barely just starting a little cough. I'm keeping the fluids in as mentioned. I don't think it's anything bronchial. So I'm hoping and praying there's nothing to stress over. I'll take it day by day Thanks again everyone !!

I thoroughly agree with Cold-Eeze. The zap of Zinc knocks my colds down to just a couple of days. Try it--there is even a no sugar Cold-Eeze.

Whatcha go to lose, except your cold.

Be healthy and keep us posted.

:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
