My first week sleeved 9th February

Recommended Posts

I was just sleeved Feb 8th and I also have not lost very much, but I do believe it is from the Fluid and gas! I still have gas pain and I cannot sleep in bed because my stomach pulls down because I sleep on my side. I am so relieved to find other sleeves who are in the same spot in their journey! I posted on another site and people were not as friendly and tod me to cut myself some slack and I just want info because there is not a lot of first and 2nd week post op info out there. : )

My doc wants me to sleep with my head elevated. I'm not sure why but it makes falling to sleep rather difficult. I tried to sleep in my own bed this afternoon but I couldn't get comfy so I'm going to try the couch tonight. I've read this could be an issue for the first week or two.

Another question my NUT has me on shakes and Soup nothing heavier than Greek yoghurt. My DD has made me lots of chicken soup which has agreed with me. I think I can add a little Pasta to the soup. Whizzed up of course does anyone else know about food? I don't know if I am head hungry or hungry. So thought I would add some more calories. I am drinking yoghurt no problems. Taking maxalon so I stop feeling sick. sleeping well my chest infection keeps me up each day the bough is getting better.

Not sure when I can try a poached egg or scrambled eggs? I know it's only 6 days but my NUT gave me a very confusing list including veges etc. I read one message where someone just put in the blender what the family was eating and watered it down! lol.. This sounds like an easy solution! As for sleeping if I try and stay still it's fine! lol.. Each day I do try doing a bit more walked for 10minutes today around the house 6 times! lol

I had potatoe soup. .. which is way thicker than broth and I just put it in my ninja to make sure I didn't have anything big. I read that to protect our new tummy what we have should be able to be consumed through a straw. Don't eat using a straw but that is the rule on how dense.

My doc has me concentrating on Proteins and as for texture, if a baby cant eat it I cant eat it. Heres my meal plan from my doc:
Stage 2: Up to week 3: Full liquids: Aim for 3-6 high Protein, liquid meals. You will be consuming 4 oz meals every 3-4 hours. Sip slowly and STOP when you start feeling fill, even if you haven't finished your meal.
Includes:
- all Clear Liquids (sugar free, calorie free, caffeine free, non carbonated beverages.< br />- skim milk or lifht soy milk
- approved Protein Shakes (must have 27 gms protein) - I use bariatric advantage
- non fat, plain greek yogurt (Fagr, Chobani), Dannon light and fit yogurt (all flavors)

Hope that helps!

I am a side sleeper to. I have found that if you put a pillow kinda under ur belly on the side ur laying on, it REALLY REALLY helps. I'm having the same issue. Lmk if it helps. Good luck ;)

I have had a bit of pain roll on your side and push up with your arms then swing your legs over the edge of the bed to get in and out. I also sleep with a small pillow between my legs ( it personal) but it takes the pressure off your tummy and back ache to. A bit mean by other groups telling you to suck it up! Great you found this new group.. All going through and growing thinner together!

Everyone's plan seems to differ, but I would say be careful as you are still healing - you don't want to do too much to fast. I would personally hold off on pasta, if more calories are needed add a scoop of Protein to the soup

My plan states week 1 clear liquids 40 G protein and 48 ounces of liquid

Week 2 is Full liquid

Week 3-6 purée and soft

Purée must be baby food consistency

Soft everything must be mashed with a fork without any lumps

@@dietbelle,

Hang in there…it only gets better from here! The first week can be pretty bleak. Don’t worry about the scale now. Your body is so out of whack from the surgery and infection that anything can happen – your fluids can be completely out of balance. Just do what you can to stay hydrated now and that will help. I hope things get better soon, and I am sure they will!

So it's been 3 weeks and I have lost 10kg However this chest infection is still there. So I saw lung specialist today and my lungs are like glue! Due to he thinks aspersions which is when your intubated and some kind of gunk went into my lungs which caused an infection. So two lots of antibiotics didn't do anything. Anyway tomorrow the lung specialist will be cleaning out my lungs It's day surgery. Cross fingers it gets rid of the cough and chest infection.

So the operation has been great I could have done without this infection though! I cough so much that sometimes I can't hold any food down. It certainly has been a roller coaster ride! How are you all going??

Yikes! Well at least you know what the problem is and are getting it taken care of. Let us know how it goes.

I had my lungs drained on Tuesday my left lung was like cement. So now on my third lot of antibiotics and have to go back to hospital next Tuesday to have the left lung done. I am so over the coughing. I haven't even noticed my sleeve. I find it very hard to eat any diary products as it brings on a coughing fit. I am drinking coconut Water and taking Probiotics. Plus Vitamins. Not eating much as I feel so terrible always out of breath! Has anyone else been ill like me?

Hi everyone and well done. I am 4 weeks pre-op and i live alone and wont have anyone to help me. My sister offered for me to stay with her for a week and i was going to accept but then i read about all the flatulence type problems and thought, no i would rather be in my own bedroom in privacy if i am going to be 'sounding off'. Also she has male partner so would have to dress more modestly if i stay there. Do you think having someone earby is necessary for the first week? Are you able to 'do' for yourself?

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to take care of yourself in the early days. You are supposed to be up and moving ASAP. You can't do any heavy lifting, so if you have kids or pets, you might need someone around to take care of THEM, but you should be able to do the little bit of food prep you need to do for yourself and take care of your own personal hygiene.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
