Popsicles "No Sugar Added" Post-op RNY

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried this brand (Purity fruit Bars)? The nurse gave me one and said it's part of the Bari 1 Diet. I told her that I thought RYN patients were to ONLY eat "sugar free" and to stay way from foods with labels that include "no sugar added", at least that was the topic of discussion during the pre-op class.

I called my sister, who's an RN and who had RNY 10 years ago, and shared the nutrition facts and she said I wouldn't dump because it only has 1g of natural sugar. This one is a banana flavored fruit pop and its really awesome.

What are your thoughts post-RNYer's?

Update: Okay, I had very loose stools before leaving the hospital and wondered if it had anything to do with the Popsicle. My Doc mentioned that it was common while things continue to wakeup on the inside, but to call him if I went more than 8 times today and it as loose.

I would still like to know the thoughts of others out there.

Hi, had my RNY in May 2015. Only dumped once from drinking a shake too fast! Never did that again. My biggest issue was throwing up, meds did not help. So 3 months later my surgeon did an Endoscopy and loosened the pouch a little. No problems since. I have sugar free popsicles & fudgesicles with no problems. I did eat a clementine once after surgery & I thought I was gonna die OMG. Have no desire to try that again. You just have to re introduce foods and sometimes more than once slowly. Portion Control plates can help also. It's just a slow process, but well worth it. Good Luck!!

Thx @ Karen Gretsinger! I don't wanna ever experience dumping. I'm learning how to sip, truly sip. My wife made me a Protein shake and it was so good at first sip that I began to drink and she had to remind me to sip sip sip.

It's hard to imagine someone dumping after eating a little cutie tangerine. But then again, the sugar from the fruit in its natural state was probably way too much. Thx for the response...it's a season of trial and error, even when you think certain things are okay to add back into the diet.

Some of the Purity fruit bars contain sugar and corn Syrup. But the ingredients label on the one your asking about does not. So it must be a "no sugar added" variety. This one uses Sucralose (splenda) as a sweetener. So I believe these will work fine for you.

@ "James Marusek" -- Yes sir, we figured as much, but I wanted to put it out there for you folks.

James, thx for taking the time to read the info and respond...you are an awesome mentor to so many of us. I went between my Surgeon's WLS Guide and your downloadable journal while recovering In the hospital and found both thoroughly preparing me for the weeks to come. I can't wait to transition to the stage where the wifey and I can prepare your chili recipe. ☺️

you may have been reacting to the sugar alcohols (that some sugar free and low sugar products contain). Some people do - it makes them gassy and have diarrhea. I don't react *that* badly to them, but I can't eat more than two sugar free popsicles because they really bother my stomach. Some people aren't bothered at all by them. YOu can tell if the product has sugar alcohols - the names end in -itol

well never mind all that - I just googled them, and they don't contain sugar alcohols. Not sure what it was you were reacting to...

@"catwoman7" Thanks for the info...I will be sure to keep an eye on the labels when buying things. Unfortunately my wife can't find those delicious popsicles anywhere. I honestly think it's a part of the post-op process.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
