I've died--and gone to SASHIMI heaven!

Recommended Posts

So, I really love sushi--love it. A few days ago on my drive home I decided to stop and try a half of a roll-Horrific chest pain, felt like bark dust in my chest. The next day, I tried sashimi--sushi with no rice--and it was truly a slice of heaven. I love raw fish, I bought a few pieces of frozen sashimi and put them in my freezer. I have also been thinking about my personal reasons for this surgery--Why did I get the gastric sleeve? I did not get the gastric sleeve, so that I could go back to eating the way that I had eaten and magically (as if) get into a healthy thin body. I wanted this surgery as a tool to aid in my overall health. Before I had surgery, a woman who works for my husband had said "My sister had gastric sleeve--and she failed, she is close to 300 lbs. again. I was angry, because I felt like she was saying: It probably won't work for you. But, I have been reflecting--and the truth is that this woman wants gastric sleeve herself, but is unable to quit smoking and her insurance will not cover it unless she quits. So moving away from that tangent, I want to eat better foods, more nutrient dense foods--I have a long ways to go, but I hope I can always remember that I didn't have this surgery so I could miraculously eat chocolate cake AND be a thin person. Anyhow, I found an adjustment: Just raw fish (sashimi) and soy sauce. I was so satiated and I felt absolutely amazing. I am having it again tonight. Lots of Protein and low fat.

See this is that happy middle ground. I was sleeved four days ago and am looking forward to sashimi. I can still have my yummy Japanese cuisine without the added calories. ???? thanks for sharing.

I got one of my favorite rolls of sushi and requested no rice.. While it didn't stay together as normal, I was still able to enjoy it. All the favors.. It was wonderful but I was able to eat 3 slices :) when before I could eat the whole roll

I'm a Sashimi lover. We have some really great joints here in NYC. If I ever crave a Sushi roll I ask them to make me a Naruto roll which doesn't have rice and is wrapped in soy paper or cucumber. I do have regular sushi rolls once in a while but I've been in maintenance mode for over a decade now.

NYC has a lot of great places. I have a second home in Queens. Congrats on being at maintenance for so long. I found large pieces of pre-cut sashimi at Whole Foods--frozen, and it is by a company that supplies many sushi restaurants throughout the country--it is super delicious.

YES! Sashimi is awesome, sits so well in my stomach. Everytime my friends want to go out to eat i suggest a sushi restraunt because its something i can eat easily and there is such a wide variety, today was salmon and yellowtail! Makes me feel normal when going to a restaurant lol glad you have found the something you can eat and more importantly love to eat that is healthy as well!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
