Consultation 1/21 Labwork 1/22 PCP 2/4 2/18 Nutrition Class

2/23 New Psych Evaluation

So far this is what I have done and what is on the list. Consult went great and the Labwork was done. I now have Vitamins to take and I saw my PCP where I asked for letter of recommendation and support. I just left my therapist (whom I currently see)and she said she won't write me a letter of approval because that is Not her department. She seemed upset that I had asked her. She doesn't want me to use the Bariatric Center I am with. She would prefer that I switch. So now I will have an appointment with a different place for a psych evaluation 2/23. I would have made the appointment in January had I known it would have been a problem. That aggravates me.

Did she give you a good reason why she doesn't want you to use that Bariatric center? If not and you are comfortable there I would consider changing PCPs. So many just don't get it and almost choose not to.

Now if there is a really good reason I would better understand that.

My new PCP (I moved states), she is great with one exception. She does not understand the special needs for Bariatric patients. I basically have to tell her which tests to run for me and Everytime I see her which is a lot lately due to 3 back to back surgeries, she almost freaks out because of how quickly my weight is coming off.

I have to remind her Everytime that it's expected and that I am a normal BMI and not underweight. I also remind her the next time she sees me that I will have lost more.

She has told me that I am one of her most complicated patients. LOL! I laugh and just say imagine me having diabetes, stage 3 kidney disease, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and anemia. All those were gone when I changed over to her. LOL!

Are you required to get a letter of recommendation from your PCP & your therapist? Just trying to clarify. I know I did a psych eval for which results were forwarded to my surgery team as to whether I was a good WLS candidate or not.

This is a new one on me. Did your surgical team recommend this therapist, or is there one they prefer that you could consult with? I'd stay with the surgical center you're at rather than changing up the entire process.

Ok so the therapist is someone that I already see and for insurance purposes I have to have both from PCP and Psych Evaluation. I like the Center that I go to. She prefers the Center that is affiliated with the company she works for. I am just going to stay where I am currently and see the other place for psych evaluation.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
