I hear you should take the gas strips even though they may not let you use them. Also, headphones and music.

An extra long charger cord for your phone or other device.

Don't overpack -- this is a day or two in the hospital when you'll be groggily recovering from major surgery -- and the hospital is used to providing things that patients need -- not a two week cruise or spa stay ^_^

I packed a bag but didn't need anything out of it but my robe. The hospital provided all items. I had gas strips packed but was not allowed to use them. I wore my jogging suit upon admission and discharge. Travel light and good luck!

A photo ID (someone can bring it to you after the surgery) just in case you wish to fill a narcotic pain medicine -not that you should need it, I was never in any significant pain outside of accidentally twisting too far the day after the surgery.

Also a car door. If it gets too warm in your room, you can roll down the window. :)

Congratulations. We look forward to hearing about your successful weight loss, post surgery.

Lip balm.

Dont take your lwn clothes i had 2 hospital gowns on, one front and one onbackwards to act as a robe. They probably wont let you wear your own stuff anyway.

Have a pillow in the car.

GasX strips are useless. And most hospitals do not want you using outside medicine. They will give you what need.

Lip Balm is the most important thing. If you nave some kind of skincare routine, bring that.

I brought super loose sweatpants to wear under my gown for walking the halls. The two-gown thing chokes me.

Don't take gas strips. Medicine is regulated by your doctor. Most hospitals don't allow outside meds.

Take an extra pillow. Slippers or slip on shoes, pj bottoms, lip balm, your bathroom toiletries. Phone charger. Loose clothes to wear home.

Of course, your WLS Guide Handbook, if you received one from your surgeons office during your pre-op visits--recovery is a great time to revisits the various stages after surgery and prepare a list of add'l things you may need after surgery. While I enjoyed the nectar Starwberry-Kiwi and Fuzzy Peach Naval Protein Powder before surgery, I have NOT enjoyed them during the hospital stay. Also, I enjoy Mio and sugar free Kool-Aid over Crystal light and I'm glad I packed them along with a few bottles of smart Water because the hospital on gives crystal light and water. Note that most hospitals make their broths from powdered form--I didn't enjoy at all. However, my surgeon asked me to focus on the water and popsicles first few days and to try other forms of Clear Liquids until my first post-op appt with him in 10 days. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. My surgery is on the 25th.

I over packed and didn't use anything. Just clothes to wear there and home. The hospital provided mostly everything for me, including lip balm. They were great! Oh and Def a long phone charger. Most of the stay, they had me on pain meds and stuff to calm me down so I slept or watched tv. Not too bad!

I packed all this stuff and didn't even open my bag. I couldn't drink anything for the first 24 hours after surgery and couldn't shower for 72 hours. The clothes I wore in were the ones I wore home and took a shower the second I walked though the door.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
