Chewable vitamins feedback?

Recommended Posts

I had my final pre-surg nutrition appointment last week and she explained to me that I'd need chewable vitamins post-op, for multi and calcium citrate (and potentially Iron, depending on lab work pre-surg), as well as liquid B12.< /p>

I've been looking at all the chewables out there, and wondering if those who have gone before me have insight as to what Vitamins worked best for them, either for quality or pricing.

Thanks for any replies!

i use the prescription nascobol nasal spray for B12. it works great. i tried some liquid under the tongue B12 and it didnt seem to help much. with the nasal spray i get my Vitamins, chewable. Calcium, Iron, and multi Vitamin. my doc says they are great Vitamins. they are mailed to me every month. nasal spray is once a week. it costs $25. however, i have met my out of pocket max so it costs me nothing. nothing costs me anything now until september 1 :):):)

I use Trader Joe's High Potency chewable Multi's. I took 2 per day for the first six months after surgery, then scaled back to one per day. They are the cheapest I have found, as well as the lowest calorie and lowest carb I have found. They taste fine, very mild. My labs have always been great.

If possible, get samples or the smallest possible unit of several brands. I never had issues with sublingual B-12. But on the other Vitamins, I stocked up on BariMelts brand and started taking them when I was cleared to start taking vitamins (~1 month po stop). Lo and behold, they make me nauseous! I recently found a Multivitamin and Vitamin D/iron patch that I started this week because I couldn't handle the vitamin induced nausea anymore.

I use the Patches. I love them! I could not find a chewable I could stomach. So far my blood work had been good with the patches.

I use opurity chewables for both Multi and Cal Citrate. I've been using them for about a month and so far so good. Still trying to find an Iron supplement that agrees with me.

Thank all of you so much for your replies with insight! I was stressing out about cost and making sure I got Vitamins that were going to meet my daily needs, etc. Between this thread and finally finding details in my NUT's handouts, I made decisions and got things purchased online! I've still got at least 6 weeks until surgery (no date yet), but I've got Vitamins ready!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
