Continued pain- left side

Recommended Posts

So I am a new member. Just got sleeved 31/2 weeks ago. Last two weeks I started having burning pain in left side. Went to see DR. He had me to leak test, gallbladder test as well as CT scan for blood clots and also blood work. Everything checked out fine. It feels like a torn internal muscle but pain is not letting up. Any advice or suggestions?? How long will the pain last ?

Is this pain in the front or the back?

The reason I ask is that I had my surgery Jan 26th and on Jan 29th I developed a stabbing pain in my lower right back shoulder. I told the surgeon about it when I saw him for my 1 week followup but he totally ignored it. It got so bad that night that the next day I went to the PCP. He thought my ribs were broken from when the PT had to use the Lift belt to get me off the toilet the day after surgery. X-rays were done and no ribs are broken. So the PCP is thinking I had internal bruises to my ribs. Five days later the pain moved to the right breast armpit area. Now he feels I have trapped gas. He had me up the GasX strips to 4 at a time. Yesterday I got to eat my first real food an egg. I have finally started to have a bowel movement and the gas is beginning to exit my body. I never knew that gas could hurt so badly.

So did you need for anyone to help you up from any chairs, toilet etc? Did they may be bruise you? Do you think it might be some left over gas that is moving through your system, now? Are you still taking the GasX strips?

I sure hope your pain free soon as I know being in that kind of pain is not pleasant at all. Good Luck!

I did not have pain in my back and really didn't have that much Gas pain. I am not taking Gas X now. It feels more like pulling and burning pain in the lower stitch area. I can get up from a chair and even bed if I go straight up - anything lateral hurts and I feel the pain. I'm wearing the stomach compression belt that I got from the hospital to keep everything in tact. It does hurt when I sit for long periods of time and sometimes in the car I can feel the burn. Good thing is - I don't have fever, nauseated, and food is going down ok. Just need to figure it out the pain. I'm glad you are out of pain now. I see the dr. in a couple weeks so maybe it will go away before then. Good luck in your journey!!

I know the pain you are describing. It subsided for me in week 5 post op. It can be excruciating but the compress belt was a life saver for me. Keep wearing it and hang in there. You will wake up one day and it'll suddenly be gone. Mine never returned. Very odd but I'll never forget the burning tearing feeling.

My surgeon said it was normal. It's just healing. Scar tissue forming and separating with movement.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
