Flying back home after surgery in Mexico, blood clotting?

Recommended Posts

As I'm getting prepared for surgery date, I would like to ask, what are your thoughts about flying right after surgery? Does it scare you? anyone with complications? Or is it really something not to worry about it too much, like a breeze. Thanks for the feedback.

I just booked an aisle seat for my flights home and was sure to get up and walk a bit every half hour or so.

@@JamieLogical Thanks. Did you let your airline know you just had surgery?

@@Gmantrek No. There was really no need. I didn't fly until 4 days post-op and I was doing pretty well at that point. I did ask other passengers to help me lift my bag into the overhead compartment and get it back down again, but that was really the only help I needed.

I had surgery in Cancun Mexico on Jan 22, 2016 (a Friday) flew home on Monday. No problems. 3 1/2 hr flight. I did get up and walk to the bathroom several times, stood in the isle some. No one seemed to mind. I did tell the airline at the check in desk. They allowed me to board with the first group of people and had someone help me with my bags. I knew I would not be able to lift my bag into the overhead. Also, I was glad they served apple juice.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
