I will be having surgery in March or April. I am 33, and will have to do IVF to have children. I hate to wait the 2 years that I am seeing recommended online. Has anyone had to do IVF after you had the sleeve, and if so, how long did you wait, or have to wait? Thanks!!

Not doing IVF yet but we are TTC and if it doesn't happen in the next few months, IVF is on the table. We waited the two years as recommended. It was important to me to be at my goal weight and as healthy as possible.

Plenty of ladies on here don't wait and there are lots of "oopsie" pregnancies for people who are newly post op. I think that you need to talk with your doctor about why they recommend the two years. It's not without reason but knowing you want to conceive, you might get the go ahead sooner at 15 or 18 months post op.

I could handle waiting a year, but terrified about waiting longer for my reasoning. I want the best out of my surgery but also want my first child before I am 35

Had my first baby at 38. Had WLS 6 weeks later. My surgeon recommended 18 months because OBs recommended 18 months between children anyway. Also, my body has went through a crazy transition. Being pregnant, surgery, and then rapid weight loss. Ideally, the 18 months to 2 years gives you 12 to 18 months to get to goal weight and then 6 months of maintaining goal weight. That helps your body stabilize. I met goal at 8 months. Doctor says we can start the 6 month of maintenance and then start trying for number 2. We didn't have to have IVF before so hopefully it will happen naturally again (but quicker) this time as I will be 39.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
