Hey y'all! I had surgery today! I'm doing fairly well, but experiencing dry mouth, and have gas pains from where they fill your abdominal cavity. If anyone has any advice whatsoever for me about the coming days..I'd love to hear from you. This is all new and hopefully will be so rewarding :) thank you in advance!!

I had surgery on February 4th! I feel much better than I anticipated. Walking definitely helps with the gas and also helps with your overall recovery. I also am making it a priority to get my Protein in and my Fluid intake! Good luck! I hope you have a great first week!

Ask for lemon swabs or an oral swab and a cup of Water. I know you can't eat or drink anything so that should help. And brushing ur teeth too. Plenty of walking, do a few laps around the halls. Don't be afraid to ask for painkillers after the walks, if morphine makes u dizzy. Good luck to u.

Get up and walk about 15 minutes after you get each dose or or every other dose and walk for a few minutes. I brought a pillow on my walk and kept it pushed against my belly. I found that getting the pain meds and then waiting 15 minutes allowed me the least amount of pain when walking and helped my body to relax and let some of the gas come out in burps. I had a hard time getting the gas out when I wasn't relaxed from the meds and walking. Good luck!

Gas has continued to give me trouble for the last couple of days. I'm home now and last night was a somewhat peaceful night. The key is to stay on track with pain meds. I've been adding a Tylenol to the pain pill to help it last longer and it seems to be doing the trick. Walking has helped with the gas stuck in my abdomen, however, it has slowly come out on its own..sorry if tmi lol any bit of relief is a win in my book. I'm staying hydrated. Seems to be doing good, just still tired. Started back taking my Vitamins today as well as getting some Protein in. Protein was too much at first when I got home..it made me dry heave pretty bad. But can now tolerate it. Hoping for continued progress!! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
