I started my journey on Dec 16th with my initial call to setup my appointment with my surgeon. Im really excited and need to share this with people as I'm not telling people I know I'm getting surgery. (Too judgmental)

Timeline so far

January 27, 2016 --seminar

February 15, 2016 -- first appointment with Dietitian.

February 16, 2016 -- first support group meeting.

Febraury 22, 2016 -- First meeting with surgeon..

You're moving along pretty quickly. It was 7 months between my first seminar and my surgery, and there wasn't a 6 month diet plan or anything. It just took that long to do all the requirements and have everything checked and so on. Good luck! :)

@@Cervidae I also had a 6 month wait between my initial meeting and my surgery. In that time I had to complete a 13-wk fitness program (3x wkly for 30 mins ea). Once that was completed I could get my EGD, EKG, pre-op labs, etc. It was a long journey but pretty par for the course from my understanding.

@@RNY-Gal you are moving along nicely. Stick with it, jump through the proverbial hoops and you'll have your date before you know it.

Well, I just got a call and it was a crushing blow. I guess my policy is worded wrong and now I don't qualify. I don't have any co-morbidities. I have high blood pressure but you have to take three forms of medicine for that to qualify.

So, my appt. with my Nut. Was cancelled. But she kept the one with the surgeon. She wants me to get a sleep apnea test and hope for a positive. I'm pretty discouraged right now. This sucks!!

Update since last posting...

I got the OK from the insurance company! I'm a candidate for WLS. I had my surgeon meeting this past Monday. He was so nice and excited to get this started. I have my first NUT appointment March 3rd, Pulmonary test March 15, Endoscope April 22nd. It's starting to feel real now!

My experience is flying by as well! I had my consultation with the surgeon and my first NUT appt on 2/4.

Since then I've had a full blood panel, EKG, PFG, sleep study, PT class, pysch eval, and another NUT appt. I have one more NUT appointment tomorrow, and then I think I'm done with everything my insurance company requires and my next step will be to have it all turned in to insurance and then meet for a pre-op appointment to schedule surgery.

I'm really hoping for next month!

I fine it interesting how much this varies so much for everyone, all based on insurance... you'd think that the insurance companies would be more consistent across the board.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
