I have started my pre op diet for surgery in February 19th. I lost several pounds on days one and two and the last two, I haven't went anywhere. My liver shrinking diet is Meal Replacement bars, shakes, Soups provided by doc, I All green veggies I want and one serving of lean meat if wanted. If I leave out the meat it's about 750 cal a day if I put it in it can go up a few hundred. I am afraid I am going to be a slow loser. I am hoping my body is just like hold on a minute, where is my food!

Hang in there and have faith. I know how you feel. My two week pre op diet was liquids only: Protein Shakes, broth, and sugar free Jello and Popsicles. I had a two friends that did their two liquid diet around the same time I did mine. They lost almost 20 pounds and I only lost 4. I never cheated either. I was so worried the surgery wouldn't work or that I would be a slow loser.

After surgery my weight came off fairly easily. I went from 271 down to 145 in about six or seven months. I am 20 months post op and maintaining just fine!!

It works!!

Good luck on your surgery- you can do it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
