How much weight did you lose the first 4months after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm not positive, but I think around 25-30 pounds. Started with a 40 BMI.

Everyone loses at different rates so looking at others loss will not help you determine how much you will lose. I am a "slow" loser by comparison to most on this board but I am losing faster than ever before and I am grateful for it. I lost 37 lbs in the first 4 months (October 1 to February 1st) and only half a pound since then. Keep in mind that I lost 10 lbs the first week after surgery that was my Water weight since I did not have a preop diet.

It all depends on your starting weight and how well you follow the program.

You really don't want to compare yourself to others as that may set you up for disappointment and feeling as if you are failing.

Focus on changing your attitude towards food & exercise, Protein, Water and calorie free liquids, low fat, carbs & sodium. If you are doing the best you can with these things, you are a success no matter what the scale tells you.

Best of luck on your journey

In one week will be my 4 mo anniversary and I've lost 34. Very slow going but I started rather low BMI. 40 more to go.

My highest weight (about 2 months pre-op) was 235.

Lost 19 pounds pre-op.

Lost 42 pounds during the first 4 months post-op.

I was sleeved at age 68. I'm 5'5" tall.

I reached goal (150 pounds) at 8.5 months post-op.

9 months later I've lost another 15 pounds and am at a comfy maintenance weight of 135 pounds.

Good luck! (This is NOT a race. In fact, this journey never, never ends.)

I have lost 280lbs and was wanting to know if the burn center in Lubbock Tx would do a Tummy Tuck for free if I donate my excess skin and if so how do I get the process going

You might want to ask that in the plastic surgery forum, also

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
