How long does it take you to finish a protein shake?

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 days post op and wondering about how long it should be taking me to finish a shake. Preop I drank them fast because I don't like the taste and I could gulp with a straw. Now I'm having a hard time drinking them.

It will get better with time. At 4 days post op, it took me maybe 30 mins. And that was if I could even finish it. Now at 12 days post op, I can finish 8 oz in probably 10-15 mins.

I'm also 4 days post op. So far I haven't finished one. Seriously. I had one the day after surgery that took all day. Saturday all day I managed about half a premier shake. Today I tried a Syntrax nectar "shake". Got the whole thing down over 4 hours. I just can't do the heavy shakes yet. I ordered more of the Syntrax in different flavors. Try Nashuanutrition.com. They sell samples of lots of different powders so you can try before you invest a lot of money b

3 days post op it took me 4 hours to drink my first shake. Very small sips every 15 minutes. Today 10 days post op I finished it in 1/2 hour. Am able to take larger sips and had no problems with any kind of stomach pain. Today I was even able to make one of the shakes into a kind of pudding. I don't remember how long it took to eat it but I had no problems.

It took me about 1 hr to finish an 11 oz shake for the first few weeks. Now at 4 weeks out I can finish it in about 30. We're suppose to drink/eat slowly taking our time. If I drink too fast my sleeve lets me know.

3.5 months and sometimes takes me all day! Lol. It's very rich and 'solid,' so takes time - not like sipping on Water.

I'm just over 6 months out and it still takes me a good twenty-thirty minutes to finish my breakfast Protein shake/smoothie. I've just learned to factor it into my schedule.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
