AFRAID! Surgery in less than 24 hours

Recommended Posts

I'm full of jitters. My surgery is tomorrow and I'm having second thoughts. I mean my goodness I can't believe I'm going to do this. I have a perfectly working stomach. Why am I paying someone three grand to cut me? Going under anesthesia, all this blood work. Am I just that much of a failure?

I have no intentions of hurting anyone or to sound condescending because we are all here for a reason. I just... Oh I don't know.

Maybe it's just nerves and I swear all I want is a huge piece of chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream and a slice of pizza and some lasagna and a tall glass of pepsi with ice filled to the brim.

But I'll just go get a glass of Water so I won't be dehydrated on tomorrow because F it I don't want to be fat!

Just think of it as a nice nap and when you wake up you get to re-invent yourself. For me, all the pre-op requirements and emotions were much more to overcome than recovery. Give your new tummy a name. Mine is Miss Tummy, and two years later, she is still the boss of me.

I was in your shoes 2 weeks ago and I completely understand. I came so close to backing out, citing all the reasons that you listed above. But I knew I had to do this. For my health, my future, my kids, my family. For so many reasons. And now that the scary part is behind me, I really am glad that I did it.

You've got this!!

Think of all the positive changes that are going to come out of your surgery!!! Walking without joint pain, fitting into the seats at amusement parks, not feeling like everyone is staring at you because of your weight, not being the heaviest person in the room, fitting into a normal size bathing suit, shopping in the regular clothes section (not the plus size section with limited selections!!) just to name a few!! ????. You've got this! Besides....no way I'm doing this 2 week preop diet and backing out!!! Hang in there!!! So excited for you!!

You're in the starting gate--just waiting for the best of your life to start.

It is sooo exciting!!!----yet at the same time soooo scarey!! Ever notice how the horses who are in the starting gates are pawing and stomping the ground?? They have trained and trained and trained and now are ready to get going!!!--just waiting to hear the starter's pistol. It's the same with each of us the day before sugery.

Take a deep breath, steady your breathing, put your head down, and wait for the starting pistol to fire...

Prayers going skyward for you and some peace of mind.

We are all starting to "inch" over to make room for you on The Losers' Bench.

One step at a time. Please keep us posted,

Valentina

It was a big nonevent for me. Zero hassles and easy recovery.

I'd do it again in a second.

See you on the Loser's bench later today. You'll do great.

I did the same thing. I was crying hysterically. The day after I was doing the same thing I couldn't believe what I had done to myself. How pathetic am i?

My surgery was 2/1 and I started my Vitamins today and I feel better each day. Stronger each day and more empowered each day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
