Nurse_Lenora 903 Posted February 7, 2016 I'm bringing my phone and my iPad. I know myself and I have come through previous surgeries well and I know I will be bored to tears if I don't have them. I need to be able to text etc. My partner will hold my things while I'm in surgery. After that I've got it! I'm the crazy patient who will be in full makeup 10 minutes after I hit my room. ???? esskay77 785 Posted February 7, 2016 I brought mine. It could get stolen but most likely it won't.

I'm a private duty CNA myself, and my mother and sister are both RN's. That's not what they tell their pts. They ask them to turn phones to vibrate and very low volumes in certain areas and at certain hospital hrs. GEEEEEZ!???? I'm taking mine, and I have my immediate family to hold my stuff and be in my room when I get out of recovery. I realize I will be given TV and a courtesy phone, but IM TAKING MY PHONE!! ???? @pedro-my mom has a galaxy and those phones are very good. I love the edge to edge screen it has. It has some stuff iPhones don't. May be old school but it still rocks! ????????

SHOTzY* 114 Posted February 7, 2016 @@Nurse_Lenora ????!! Not so crazy. I'm worried about my hair. I want to look presentable when they make rounds the following morning. I'll be awake trying to fluff, comb, and brush it all back together. Oh, I gotta have hairspray!!! I'll be dragging that IV pole all over the place! ???? glitter eyes 1,398 Posted February 7, 2016 @Nurse_Lenora. That's not crazy.. After my surgery as soon as I got to my room I shuffled to the bathroom and redid my makeup then sat down and painted my fingernails (the hospital wouldn't allow nail polish during surgery). After I was glammed up I went for a walk!!
Dub 9,922 Posted February 7, 2016 I took my iPhone and a remote battery back up that was good for 3 charges. I downloaded a book and some movies to it the day before surgery. I didn't want any visitors. I just wanted to get in there and get home and heal up. It was unreal how often nurses, surgeon, hospital staff members and such were in and out of my room. The meds from surgery had me sleepy, yet every few minutes here came someone else in my room. Take some comfortable shoes like Crocs or something that you can slip on/off with ease. You'll be glad you have them while you are walking laps every couple hours.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted February 7, 2016 LOL, I must be a Luddite compared to you guys. I gave my phone to my mom with strict instructions not to give it back to me until I was no longer loopy. I also gave her a list of folks who wanted an update when I got out of surgery so she could send them a text. Then, I just focused on recovery, walking, dozing, etc. My mom was there with me and my sister stopped by that evening, so I had someone to talk to. Since I went home the day after surgery I didn't use my phone until I got home. I didn't miss it and I didn't get bored.
SHOTzY* 114 Posted February 7, 2016 Yeah, I've always told people never go to the hospital for rest and quiet. Not happening-HA HA HA!!!! The surgery staff and Dr's have flow sheets for all kinds of stuff they want monitored and recorded. They need all that stuff, too, but it is overwhelming and I can see where people could get annoyed ????. I'm just glad I'll be able to log on and still stay connected to these forums. Just freakin' love all the advice and wisdom from the post op folks. It's Sunday, so tomorrow I will be a post op! ????????????-That pretty much describes the current state of my mind! Djmohr 6,965 Posted February 7, 2016 @@Pedro Valle-Inclan Geez, I brought my phone and my iPad. I just had my hubby hold on to them until I was out of surgery and back in my room. I never slept a wink that first day and night. No one was stealing my stuff. LOL! I slept the second night but very lightly.
Pedro Valle-Inclan 275 Posted February 7, 2016 Hi folks and thanks, but you see, you're all talking about people, family, wives, mothers, etc who will do this or that, keep your phone till you're out of surgery etc. That's great, but I'm on my own here. Where can I leave my phone and charger when I go to surgery??? thanks for any ideas

cookarue 233 Posted February 7, 2016 I just put my phone in my bag. I've got insurance on the damn thing so if they wanted to steal it while I was passed out then they could. It didn't get stolen though. When I was in recovery I just kept it on the bed with me. I didn't use it much because I was out of it most of the time, but it was nice to have it with me still.
