Ok, I was so freaked out about this I alsmot didn't have surgery, and you know what that is freaking NUTS! I drank a 12 pack of Coke a day, a freaking 12 pack!! NO JOKE. I would have rather given up my arm than my pop, but I did it. And I look back and wonder what the hell was I thinking????

Think of all that sugar, even if it is diet. We don't need it. Occassionally I will sip my Dh, but I don't really like it anymore. Not the same, and you know what that is ok. It was just was more nail in my coffin if I continued with it.

I to was a big pepsi drinker. I have read where diet drinks also make you hungrey. Now I drink lots of Water and water with crystal Light, I also have switched to Decaf coffee. I don't miss my pepsi at all. :biggrin1:

You can do it.:clap2:

The NP at my clinic also noted the study about slippage but even before that it was banned for me by them. No nutritional value and the carbonation messes up the band.

I spent almost $20K on this thing, I'm not going to screw it up because I want a diet coke.

Now mind you, I was drinking about 8 a day pre-op. It was hard to let go. I still miss it sometimes but I'm really enjoying the Crystal Light and Iced Tea so it's not as bad as I thought.

My doctor says that the carbonation will stretch the pouch. Also, the nutritionist at her office says that studies have shown than aspartame when in beverages causes the body to secreet insulin the same that is does when drinking sugary drinks. For people who tend to have a weight problem, this insulin is stored as fat. I find this interesting and although I haven't done it yet, I intend to see what I can find on-line about this study. In the past I've gone in cycles - one year where all I wanted was iced tea, the next where all I wanted was diet pepsi. This year, it so happens I was more in the iced tea mode, but since my band, there have been a couple of times I would have really liked a DP. Oh well....small price to pay and Water is so much healthier.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
