I'm new to all of this. Once you have the band in, can you drink soda? I love my diet coke!!

Thanks,

I haven't had it for a long time, and I used to LOVE it- it was the first thing I did in the morning. Then I started reading and seeing in the news more and more how bad it is for you, even diet colas. So I gave it up cold turkey. And you know what? I don't miss it one bit. If I did it, so can you!

My Doctor said no way... and I won't take the chance. I have been a diet coke fan for over 20 years. I know how you feel. Its worth it though!

Banded last Friday! :)

I haven't been banded yet, but I was told at the seminar I went to that it was an absolute no. I haven't had soda in six months and don't miss it like I thought I would.

Nope. No carbonated drinks at all. Some people will let the soda go flat, then drink it...but the carbonation is bad for your pouch. And actually quite painful b/c the carbonation has no where to really go.

I won't even attempt it. I was a Pepsi lover, but I had to say goodbye. But it will be worth it!

I haven't been banded yet, but that was my first question, I love my diet pepsi and my Dr. said that it was all up to you and how you tolerate it, most ppl find the carbonation painful, but that you could drink it if it didn't bother you.

I've heard mixed things on this topic. As for my doctor, Iwas told none for a year. I've beencoping pretty good. I also think it has been a plus with my post op weight lost. Proceed with caution.

My doc gives it back after your first month check up! I drink it less now, because I know that Water is best for flushing the fat out, but I do still have my Dt. Dr Pepper and my coffee!

My doc said no as it depletes your Calcium - I am not a big soda drinker anyway - but if I want to have one at some time - will pour into a class and let some of the fizz go away and have some. No straw drinking !!!

I rather have an Ice Tea...

Aloha

No my dear I'm sorry to say that Diet Coke is gone forever. I know that Diet coke had to slow down production after I got my band, because I was a Coke-addict. A little story about how bad I was, I told my DSW that I had to give up DC before my band. So 1-1/2 Months pre-op I decided that this was the way I was going to do it, I was going to count how many I had a day and cut that in 1/2 45 days and so-on till 1 week pre-op, well when I found out that I was drinking 14 DC aday!!!! I quite cold-turkey " and lost 8 Lbs." it was hard at first, I thought my head was going to explode but it didn't and I haven't really missed it. So if I can do it I know you can.

Take care and good luck

Aloha

I haven't been banded yet, either, but my doc has told me no way. I was a Diet Mountain Dew addict. It was with me everywhere. First thing in morning, last at night. I figured there was no way in heck I'd ever be able to give that up, but I did it cold turkey, and haven't had any side effects. As for smoking, well that's another story.......

My NP just told me today that there is a study thats coming out that shows a correlation between drinking soda and band slippage. At the very minimum they have me off of soda for a year. I too went cold turkey with soda and I'm one week out and have barely thought about it.

Its a small price to pay!

i am addicted to soda too.... i decided to give it up and to focus on Water.... Water is suppose to be the magic tool in any diet. so, in a month i'll see if making only this one change makes a diff....

Whilst i awaiteth my bandification!

i'm 3-1/2 months post op and i can't "do" soda at all - not flat, because the sugaryness SUCKS. not carbonated, because the bubbles cause stretching and actually hurts.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
