What's Realistic for 6 months post-op?

Recommended Posts

I have my 6 month check up in 2 weeks and have been stuck at -65 pounds. That seems like a lot of weight loss to me - until I get on this Forum... then it seems my progress is much slower.

I started at 299. I am 5'5" and swim 3x week now.

How much have y'all lost? What do you do when you plateau? and I know I'm not over-eating!

Please reply! Thanks

Kitty

First congratulations on your weight loss! 67lbs is a lot of weight in six months. You have to remember that comparing your loss with others does not make a lot of sense given everyone is different.

Everyone loses at different rates but in the end it all evens out.

Also I would add that losing slower and consistently is much easier on your body in the end.

I have had many many stalls along the way. Some were caused by my own behaviors getting in the way and others were simply my body taking a break. When the stall goes on for several weeks I take a look at my diet and exercise and see if there is something I am doing that needs to stop.

I track everything I eat, good or bad so it's right there for me to see. When a stall begins for me it is usually because my carbs are higher for a couple of days. I have learned that if I stay around 1000 calories or less, less than 80 grams of carbs and around 75 to 80 grams of Protein consistently I lose. If my carbs or calories go above that for a day it can trigger a stall which can last sometimes for several weeks. If it goes beyond 3 weeks I adjust my carb intake and I usually begin losing again.

If I eat 1200 calories a day with similar carb and Protein goals I see to maintain. I have not yet figured how high I can go but because I am very close to goal I plan to figure that out as well.

If you want to lose faster, you should take a look at the balance of those nutrients to better understand where your sweet spot is. You may already know that but you didn't include it in your op.

As your food volume increase, you have the option to reduce your reliance on Protein shakes, provided you consume high Protein meals. Protein Shakes contain calories. When I started dropping off my Protein Shakes one by one, my weight loss picked up and I went off my stall.

In order to do this, you will need to accurately assess the amount of protein you are obtaining from meals.

my 6 month post op point will be on Feb 17th, and I've lost 107 pounds as of this morning. However, I started at almost a hundred pounds higher than you. I think you're actually doing really well! I can't wait to be down to 230 - I still have 50 pounds to go before I get there, almost as much as you've already lost. So be proud of yourself, because you're doing great. This time next year it won't matter that some people lost more weight faster than you. What matters is your health and well-being. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
