Wanting to Over eat....

Recommended Posts

March 28th is my scheduled surgrey.

Lately I've found myself wanting to eat more then I normally do because I know after this surgrey I won't be able to eat as much or eat certain foods.

Anyone else experiencing this?? I'm kinda feeling bad about it. Ugh

My surgery date is on the 23rd Feb. I'm eating like a machine this week because it's like my last supper. Enjoy it. Then you can't start fresh with your pre-op diet and say goodbye to binging :)

Hi there,

Completely normal. I had my surgery on January 6th--right after Christmas and New Year--I definitely was part of the last supper group. I ate a lot, up until two days before my surgery and then I was put on pure liquids. Tomorrow, I am a month out and I am now 22 pounds down. Be gentle with yourself. Consult with your surgeon.

It's called "food funerals" and is common behavior. The thing you need to remind yourself of is that you WILL be able to enjoy all of your favorite foods again someday, just in smaller quantities.

I did the same thing it it normal. I just got tired of it all. My friends & family were like "Do you have any other places you want to eat or things you want to eat before your pre-op diet?" By that time I was pretty happy with my choices, I didn't gain any weight by making sure my portions were small but my cravings for the old foods were satisfied.

Don't binge or have food funerals.

You will be able to eat the same foods at the appropriate stage, just in smaller quantities and less frequently for some, after WLS.

I think the psychological aspect of the impending surgery causes this. I remember going and spending two hours in the grocery store, relaxing and reading food labels was good for me. I just kept busy!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
