Manatee 4 Posted July 30, 2007 It's not the insurance company that you should be irritated with, but rather the company that employees you. Insurance companies provide a buffet of services, and each company decides what the best combination of coverage and cost fits their needs. Talk to your company's owner or HR department, many companies are right now in negotiation for their 2008 coverage and a gentle nudge might help.
jennypoo 0 Posted July 30, 2007 Yeah thats what our ins guy just told me.That I would have to go to the boss man and ask him to add the rider to our insurance when It renews in Oct. I just got that kinda boss I dont know if I can ask him to add that.Hes rather hateful.. Any suggestions on how to come out and ask soemthing like that? Kat817 19 Posted July 30, 2007 A lot of it will depend on how important you are to the company. As well as a bunch of other things, is they boss overweight? Is his wife? Sounds silly---but it will matter to how he responds. I would ask for an appointment with him, I would explain my health issues, and that the way you would like to handle the health problems is through a relatively new, totally reversible, WLS. I would be sure to let him know if insurance were to be changed to cover it, that it would be a quick procedure, that you would not be off of work for long. Ask him if he would be willing to look over some literature regarding the type of surgery you are considering, so that possibly when the insurance review come up in October, that it might be able to be changed to cover the surgery your health requires. I know it is much easier to type it here than to say it---but you will never know without asking. Do you think there is anyone else within your company who would be interested in the surgery as well, or any WLS, so that you could go as a group? Keep in mind, even if they change the policy to include it, the hoops you might have to jump through are sometimes unreal. If you are seeing a Dr. now, be sure to have everything documented, it will help in the long run. Good Luck to you! Kat
jennypoo 0 Posted July 30, 2007 Hes the type of person that you go in and tell him you wanna do the surgery he will be like why dont you stop eating, stuff like that.Hes the kinda boss thats better than you.But he hasnt realized we both put our pants on the same way.Mine are just bigger than his Our agent is gonna mention it to him and give him the price difference next month and tell him theres a couple people interested in it. I know ive read so much about what people have to go thru to get teh surgery with the insurance company.Kinda wonder if its just as easy to add some more debt to what I have. MissNilsa 0 Posted July 30, 2007 I hope that changes for you. I hope your company revises their plan. How much will it cost where you live. I could never ever pay for this surgery myself here in New York. It is a minimum of 25K for the facility that I chose.
jennypoo 0 Posted July 30, 2007 Dont know how much it is here.Im gonna make some calls tommorrow and see.I dont think I will be able to afford it either. Im one of them people that once they set there mind to something I want it now.And it sucks!!!
UN5-3051 0 Posted August 25, 2007 I saw the title of your Thread and had to open it. I feel for you completely. I hate my insurance company, too. I work at the hospital that performs, employs, promotes and profits from bariatric surgery. The same place that I will have my lap band surgery performed one week from today, also denies coverage in our company owned insurance, Premier, a Mercy Health Plan @ St. John's in Springfield, MO. No discount to employees either! $17,000. There are over 10,000 employees so going to my manager will not change any policy on this issue, it's been brought to the table many times over the years. I've worked there for 32 yrs..... and am I bitter regarding this subject?!?! Absolutely!!!

sistergirl 0 Posted August 25, 2007 This happenened to me as well, I had an obesity clause in mine that I was not aware of. I appealed it and everything and it did no good. I ended up paying for mine myself. It was worth every penny, it has been l0 months and I have lost all of my weight which was 98 lbs.
