How long until you can go back to sedentary office job after RNY GBP?

Recommended Posts

You know I hadn't thought about needing to be sipping virtually ALL day still 11 days after surgery, now of course no one at my school knows I'm having gastric Bypass, the cover story is gall Bladder surgery, but who cares if I'm sipping out of a large Water container all through every class.... in some ways the structure of work might make it simpler, the stopping drinking a half hour before each meal, blah, blah..

Btw, in those first weeks on liquid diet with my Protein shakes and powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Protein Soups, do you have to do that same no drinking a half hour before and after meals even when you're drinking your meals at that point??? thanks, p

I was wondering the same thing about drinking Water while still on liquids! ????

I know someone who was sleeved and he eats small salads and Soups during lunch meetings. I've wanted to has, but haven't, isn't that drinking and eating at the same time? I'm going to ask my dietician about it before I leave the hospital tomorrow.

I run a home daycare and I was back on the floor and playing with the kiddos the following Monday. I also had a three day stay at the hospital because after surgery found out I was allergic to morphine, and got so sick.

I was actually wondering the same thing! I work in a very sedentary office and am sitting around all day. I am hoping to get a new position and don't want to start off on medical leave lasting more than a few weeks.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work the next Monday. I have a desk job too. Was 34 when I had the surgery. Did just fine but was a little tired the first few days. The part that was difficult for me was I still had pain in my back/shoulders from the gas they pump into your abdomen during surgery so I just got up and walked around a lot. I kept my Protein Shake on my desk all day and sipped on it every 15 minutes. No one had a clue anything was different. It worked out well for me.

thanks, so good to hear what others go thru. So I had my bypass last wed 2/10, and now I go to work teaching high school this monday. Thank god I had a very smooth, complication free surgery with very little pain if at all (more just uncomfortable) and no gas problems that I noticed. Now I'm in my 60s and I'll have had 11 days to recuperate. My guess is that I'll be incredibly exhausted come Monday afternoon; instead of staying till 4pm ish I'll probably go right home and collapse. Wish me luck!! And all my hope of luck for you all as well!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
