Veterans - What Size are You After Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

I decided that I wanted to be a 10. I am 3lbs from my surgeon's goal of 150 and I am between a 6 and an 8 and a small or medium.

I never thought I would be this small, especially since I did weigh 150 at some point in high school and I was never in a size 6 (but I was also shopping in the juniors department, not ladies).

That's incredible! Are you planning on maintaining at 150, or will you keep going down? 150 was my original goal, but I think I'll try for 140.

My biggest clothes were size 24 and they were snug. Highest weight I saw was 265. I was 224 when I started the program (size 20/22..told you they were snug).

I thought if I could get in to single digit sized clothes it would be surreal. So an 8 I guess. I don't ever remember wearing that. Well, maybe as a fetus.

I'm now a 2, or 4 petite. My jeans are a 0. But I'm pretty lean except for my upper/ inner thighs. I recently had a tummy tuck/panni and brachioplasty. Made things fit better without really going down. Even the PS said it was just skin, no fat. So my weight didn't go down much.

I never thought I'd be in a size 2. If I rebound a bit, I'll still be thrilled.

Eh I'm not actually sure. I am thinking I should stay at 150 because I may look too thin at 140.

I went from a 22W to a 5/6. This was not a goal, it just is was it is.

But sizes have changed a lot in the past several decades. I was 3 inches shorter, 20 pounds lighter and wore a size 10 when I was in 8th grade. I was smaller then but wore a "larger" size. It's called vanity sizing.

I'm a 12/14 depending on the store and was 22/24 before. I still have around 10 lbs to lose, but I don't see myself getting into any smaller sizes. I wanted to be 10/12 but I don't think there is a way to be a 10 because of how my body is built. Maybe I will surprise myself though who knows.

I carry all my weight in my hips and thighs (see my gallery). I can literally see my ribs above my boobs now and yet I am BARELY squeezing into SOME size 10 pants. Usually it's a 12.

That's what I am expecting. I have a butt the size of TX. I hear this on a regular basis: "You have a big butt for a white girl." *sigh*

Big butts are IN. Girl, you are gravy!!

I had a vision in my mind of what my results would be at goal. It was more shocking to experience it. I never thought I would ever wear this size even with surgery. I can wear size 0 to a size 4. My surgery was in 2014. I'm comfortable maintaining my weight in the 130's to 140's.

I'm not sure if you have seen this virtual weight loss simulator. Its kind of fun to see possibilities.

I realize this thread isn't about vanity sizing. But this morning I was looking at Vogue patterns and discovered with a little google-fu that they haven't changed their sizes since 1972-73.

Take a look at the measurements in this Vogue pattern sizing chart and prepare to be amazed (or chagrined):

I'm 5'6" and after 7 months, I'm gone from 215 to 148........ Wearing a size 8. Originally had planned on getting lower, but this size feels good on me and I'm in maintenance. If I lose more, my skin would be looser and it's pretty bad now.,

In my initial conversation with the surgeon, he said 180 should be my goal, down from 358. I guess I was hoping for something lower, like 150, but losing half my body weight doesn't seem too bad. I don't remember being 180 pounds - it's been close to 20 years. Maybe I will be able to shop at a 'normal' clothing store in a few years!

And this is why people saying "but Marilyn Monroe wore a size 12-14!" is so dumb... yes, she did, but that is in 1950s sizing, not 2010s. Ugh, drives me nuts. She had like a 23" waist.

ANYWAY... I don't consider myself a veteran yet, but I'm below goal. I started out pre-op as a size 20W, and I'm now wearing a size 2 or 4. I never, ever, ever thought I'd fit into a size 2! And yes, vanity sizing is a very real phenomenon. When I was about this weight in high school (about 1995?), I don't think I was ever in smaller than a 7/8 in pants. (Oh, and BTW, I am currently wearing a modern size 2 pants but I'm a size 18 in 1940s clothing/patterns. Ha!)

I would have been thrilled to fit into an 8 or 10, but my body decided otherwise, at least for now. I initially set my goal weight at 145, which was still "overweight" for my height (5'2"), but it was the lowest I could fathom weighing, and a weight at which I remembered feeling OK. Once I had surgery and started dropping weight, I realized that I could revise my goal downward, so I set it at 135, which is the highest weight of the "normal" range for my height. I hit that in December and have lost another 15+ pounds. It's mind-boggling!

I'm 8 months out, and at the beginning was thrilled with the idea of being a size 12-14. Now I'm generally a 10, sometimes an 8 on the bottom and a medium on top. I own one pair of size 6 jeans that prove vanity sizing truly does exist! I'm below my original goal of 175lbs (currently between 168-169 and 5'9.5"), and pretty happy where I'm at. While I'd like to lose about 5lbs more, I'm okay with maintaining this size too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
