Cervidae 2,389 Posted February 3, 2016 This mindset that so many people have about wls being the "easy way out" or a "magic cure" is exactly the reason I haven't told most people that I had surgery. Only my mother and sister know, because I know that the entire rest of my family would be super judgmental and ignorant if they knew. My 160 pound loss would cease to be a major accomplishment and would somehow just be cheating to them. I refuse to put up with that ignorance. So to them, I'm just dieting hard and working my butt off (literally) which is pretty much exactly what I'm doing anyway. No harm, no foul.
coggietm 34 Posted February 3, 2016 Because the old fashioned way didn't work all the years I tried it. So, I have decided to do what I need to do to be happy, healthy and live longer.

LipstickLady 25,682 Posted February 3, 2016 I'd tell that person to suck my butt. Do they walk to work or ride in a vehicle? After all, walking is the "old fashioned" way. Do they wash their clothes in a creek or use a washing machine? Do they take poop inside or out in the woods? Do they take medications or just let nature take its course? Diapers and tampons or rags? Let's talk about old fashioned! I could go on forever but I will stand by my original answer of SUCK IT.

IrishGermanRN 151 Posted February 3, 2016 And it's articles like People mag January half their size issues while it's fantastic they did lose all the weight. People mag said they did it without "short cuts" this tells the general population that reads their mag and conditions them that anything other than the way they lost weight, is a short cut. GibbsGirl 483 Posted February 3, 2016 Throat Punch, seriously if someone said that today it would be so. Then I would buy them all the Protein shakes, since they could no longer swallow and ask them how much they like them the next few weeks. I am cranky, I am sick of food and worrying about food. I feel like I need a damn noodle or a Frito chip. Riding my stationary bike is hurting my butt and I need to go buy new underwear, which I would rather eat glass but it probably has carbs. I'm doing great and I don't regret my decision but today would not be the day to say such things.

B-52 7,113 Posted February 3, 2016 If I could have done it the old fashion way, then I would not have gone through surgery....Surgery did for me what I was unable to do on my own...control my hunger and the inability to overeat. I really wish I didn't have surgery, but I had no choice...my health was failing fast, and it was literally "Do or Die" And now I am as good, if not better, than most others....I laugh everytime I hear people constantly talk about "Dieting" and how they need to loose to look good in a swimsuit....summers coming, right? Everyday you hear it at least once...someone is carrying on about this diet or that, and how they "Put on a few pounds"...because of the holidays.... I'm glad I can put all that behind me, and I don't need to apologize to anyone for what I have done for myself and what I have become. I really think people say stupid things because they're jealous and are envious....Too Bad!!! So what if it was easy...easy is good, right? Everything in society is aimed at making life easier...so why should this be so bad? I go to the gym and "work hard" to achieve the benefits...if there was an easier way and still reap the same results, would I do it? Of course I would....and so would others. skinnyrita 188 Posted February 4, 2016 View the people who say " you 're cheating" the same way you would look at someone who believes the Earth is flat. You know better but their complete and total ignorance is laughable when you know the truth. The surgery is just one of the many changes necessary to lose weight. If you can't control yourself, even after surgery you Will Gain Weight! If you can't make all the behavioral and psychological adjustments, you Will Gain Weight! It's not magic at all, pouf and now you are as skinny as you wanna be. After 8 months, I still work hard every day to maintain and further my weight loss. I'm 7 lbs from goal weight, but even when I reach it, I will have to work hard mentally and physically to maintain what it has taken me a year to lose, and 3 years from now, I will continue to have to work to maintain progress. Easy way out- my a--!
