I've been so excited since I received the news that my insurance approved my surgery!! I received a Feb 23rd date for my sleeve and today at work, I shared the news with a person that I thought would be supportive ---to my surprise I didn't get a Congratulations but a stern - You're cheating!! That doesn't count, why don't you do it the old fashioned way? I laughed it off and just walked away...if only they were in my shoes...they wouldn't be so quick to tell me I'm cheating ....I'm sure in their mind they are just trying to help, but those words don't help anyone at all

"Cheating" on what exactly? You're being cheated every single day of the life and health you want by doing what you've done before. It's a procedure that's going to make things better for your future. We've been part of the 95% of overweight people who can't lose weight without surgery. So, there's nothing wrong with taking the opportunity that the medical field has given us. If losing weight was easy....nobody would be overweight. Just know that I'm so excited for you, and there's lots more of us here that are really rooting for you!!!

This isn't a game! Or a contest. You're using the best tool available to save your life. If you were drowning in the ocean, would it be cheating to throw you a life preserver instead of making you swim for it? It's exactly the same thing. If they don't get that, ignore them and don't let it bother you. You're making the right choice for your health, and that's what matters. Congratulations!!!

I agree with @cookarue. Some people just won't be happy for you. We all are and it's not a competition . Congratulations! !!!!

Ignore that person. To be fair, we are cheaters, lol, but only someone who has had a sleeve gets to judge themselves as such. I am 100% sure I could never stay as small as I am if I hadn't paid someone to cut out 80% of my stomach. I am cool with being a cheater because in the end it got me to where I needed to be. Also, in exchange for cheating, I will likely spend the rest of my life barfing certain types of food, I will never get to enjoy a big meal again, and I have to be careful with my Vitamins and any potential long term effects. I understand people who think that bariatric surgery is cheating, however most of them have not struggled with their weight extensively and if they have, often calling someone else a cheater is out of jealousy.

Do for you what you need to do and if someone else wants to have an opinion, that's their right, just as it is your right to ignore them.

To anyone that says your cheating they are just ignorant. What's funny is growing up I worked for this guy that always ran me down because of my size and when I mentioned surgery for the first time he told me I was weak and pathetic. Found out recently he had weight loss surgery. Go figure.

First of all, congratulations!!! You're 3 days before me so please keep us posted! Secondly I had the same thing sort of happen to me, I smiled and walked away and haven't thought twice about it (although I have had to rethink telling people about my decision). Some people are just haters????

I don't consider WLS surgery to be cheating to attain significant weight loss. With all we had to go through to get approved, the commitment to follow the rules of WLS, and the life after, this is in NO way cheating.

This tool we now have allows us to do what's needed but we still have to be accountable.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
