There won't be any long-term consequences for doing this one time. Just don't make a habit of it!

I have to say I think that the drink and eat thing at the same time is BS. Look, I'm no medical professional but it really is about what you put in your mouth and how much. I didn't get hung up on the drinking and eating thing I got hung up on what and how much is going in and my exercise output. Just my thoughts.

Drinking while eating at the same time (or close together) will create a slurry and the food will pass through your stomach/get washed through quicker leaving you feeling less full and potentially leading to over eating.

@@Lisa_85 - did you feel sick after you ate? Is that what you are worried about or the drinking and eating at the same time? I was told, and we all have different stories, that the biggest no-no was drinking while eating or right after. I sip something occasionally with my food if it is dry. But its a sip. I am waiting 20-30 after I eat before I drink. Drinking up until you eat as mixed responses. I agree with @@4MRB4PHOTO about it washing through your stomach and making you feel hungry earlier.

It's not BS at all. The whole idea of WLS is to create restriction so you eat less and feel full longer. Eating and drinking at the same time is one of the easiest ways to bypass that restriction. I know for a fact, that pre-sleeve, I used drinking as a way to shovel in more food. I would go through 4 glasses of Water at a large meal, so I could wash that food through my stomach more quickly and fit more food in. That fact REALLY hit me the first time I experienced "fullness" post-op and my very first instinct was to reach for the Water so I could keep eating.

You do have to be responsible for what you put in your mouth, that includes foods and liquids at the same time. And while it all does come down to calories in versus calories out in terms of weight loss, if you want to take full advantage of this TOOL we have all been given, don't cheat yourself out of that restriction.

Well I work out this am and didn't eat anything so I was started to get sick so I took sips while trying to eat a very small amount of food in just so I could get passed trying to vomit!

Yeah, I don't think it's any big deal to do one time. I was once choking on something caught in my throat and I didn't hesitate to take a swig of Water to was it down. I don't think you are doing any long term damage or anything. And it certainly beats passing out or throwing up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
